I am an independent voter in Arizona and I support the Arizona Open Primary elections. For those of you who don’t already know this … Arizona independents are the 2nd largest party in the state. I am happy to hear that the independent candidate Mike Stauffer who is running for Maricopa County Sheriff and also the strongest opponent to Sheriff Joe Arpaio proudly supports the Arizona Open Primaries, too.
See below release from Stauffer campaign.
From the Stauffer campaign:
June 1, 2012
OPEN PRIMARY FOR SHERIFF
As you know by now, I am running as an independent candidate for the office of Maricopa County Sheriff. Since the beginning of my campaign in January 2010, I have stated that there is no place for partisan politics in law enforcement. I believe that candidates for the office of sheriff should participate in an open primary, with the top two vote getters moving on to a general run-off election in November. This would insure that the sheriff is elected by all of the people, not selected by partisan leadership or a closed group that reflects a small minority of voters. The office of county sheriff wields a great amount of authority over our daily lives. It is time to remove partisan politics from the office and return accountability to all of the people.
I support the open primary ballot initiative and encourage you to research it and support it as well.
