I would rather have 4 more years of Obama Care than 8 years of Romney Care

Monday, October 22nd, 2012

As an Arizona Independent registered voter, I would rather have 4 more years of Obama Care than 8 years of Romney Care.  Nobody knows what they are gonna get with Mitt Romney since he has reversed his position on just about every political issue imaginable.  We know what we are going to get with President Obama, and I just cannot trust a politician like Romney.  Mitt Romney refuses to be transparent with his tax returns yet wants Americans to trust him?  How can Americans trust him when nobody knows what his real convictions are?

How can Romney explain wanting to increase our war and defense budget by $2.1 trillion, yet not want to take care of our elderly and senior citizens here in our Homeland?  He would rather spend money bombing other countries while ignoring Homeland issues here relating to Americans?  Doesn’t make sense to spend money abroad and increasing war budgets, and Americans are tired of war.

Mitt Romney has reversed himself on all positions ranging from health care, immigration, abortion and pro life.

In fact, Mitt Romney’s own Republican cohort called him out on his own hypocrisy — see below:

The moment was, of course, the exchange between Rick Santorum and Romney when Santorum was aggressively challenging Romney about health care. Romney was going through his standard defense of his health-care plan, saying it was right for Massachusetts but not for other states. Santorum wasn’t buying it: “Think about what that means going up against Barack Obama … You are going to claim [about the Affordable Care Act], ‘Well, it doesn’t work and we should repeal.’ And he’s going to say, ‘Wait a minute, governor. You said it works well in Massachusetts.’ Folks—we can’t give this issue away in this election. It is about fundamental freedom … It’s going to be on your ballot as to whether there should be a government mandate here in Florida. According to Governor Romney, that’s OK.”

The New Yorker wrote about Mitt Romney’s reversals — indeed, Romney is making every attempt to be teflon on just about every issue ranging from abortion, immigration, health care, and jobs.

Mitt Romney can be a hard man to pin down. But there is one thing that he’s been clear about: if he becomes President, he will repeal Obamacare. That simple promise, more than any other that Romney has made, illuminates what is most at stake in this year’s election. The campaigns may spend most of their time talking about taxes and jobs. But health care is where the election’s outcome will have the most immediate and powerful impact on how Americans live.

Abolishing Obamacare would eliminate subsidies for people buying insurance and rescind regulations requiring insurance companies to guarantee coverage and benefits (for instance, to people with preëxisting conditions). Romney’s proposed alternative is to give individuals a tax break when they buy insurance and to push them toward high-deductible insurance plans, which he believes will make them more rigorous and price-conscious in choosing doctors and treatments. Romney also wants to reform Medicare by encouraging more competition among private insurers. The details are skimpy, but the core principle is that unleashing the power of the free market will bring down costs and raise quality.

Mitt Romney simply cannot be trusted and cannot identify with the average ordinary American.

I would rather have 4 more years of President Obama than to have 8 years of Mr. Multiple Choice Mitt Romney.

I perceive Romney as a crony capitalist who will hurt the middle class.

Senator McCain forgot about Romney moving him to the right on immigration thereby costing him the Latino vote against Obama

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

Did you folks read the latest headlines regarding our Senator John McCain?

He is now trying to cast Mitt Romney as an Immigration Reform Advocate.  Republicans continue to insult the intelligence of Latinos as they try to rewrite history.  I suppose McCain forgot about this circulated mass mailer below when Romney and McCain were fighting it out during the Republican Presidential primaries of 2008. I watched Mitt Romney systematically move Senator John McCain far to the right on matters affecting immigration during the 2008 GOP Presidential Republican primaries.  If it had not been for Mitt Romney, Latinos may have felt more comfortable in voting for John McCain over President Obama.  I attribute the loss of the McCain Hispanic vote to multiple-choice Mitt Romney.

McCain has been in the Senate too long, and his forgetfulness is causing me to be a strong believer in term limits.   Besides, McCain is no longer an amigo when he decided to vote against the DREAM Act of 2010.

A Flashback When Romney Moved McCain to the right on immigration thereby costing him the Latino vote against President Obama in 2008.

Arizona Immigration Activist Revisits SB 1070 in light of Supreme Court hearing

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

As an immigration activist living in Arizona, I wrote the following opinon with regard to the upcoming SB1070 hearing that will be heard in the Supreme Court.

The GOP Cannot Hide the Arizona SB 1070 ‘Large Elephant’ in the Room

By DeeDee Garcia Blase

The Supreme Court hearing regarding Arizona’s SB1070 will be a vote mover in the southwestern part of the United States.  The scab of an old wound will be ripped off and exposed once again within our community as the issue comes to the forefront again.  Instead of hanging out at the courthouse protesting against SB1070, we will protest via our vote  during the upcoming 2012 Presidential elections.  We must identify in a realistic manner what the best option will be for us that is directly hurting and affecting our community.

According to ABC News:

Kris Kobach, a key drafter of Arizona’s controversial immigration law, will be in Washington on Wednesday to hear the Supreme Court discuss the legality of the tough state measure that empowers local police to enforce federal immigration laws.  Kobach, who worked closely with former Arizona State Sen. Russell Pearce in crafting the 2010 law, said he stays in close touch with the Mitt Romney campaign.

These days, we are witnessing multiple-choice Mitt Romney make moves as he tries to disassociate himself from Kris Kobach.  Many within our Latino community believe it is too little and too late – specifically in the southwestern part of our Country where most of the  Mexican-American population resides.

Unfortunately for Romney, he has made too many damning statements when he chose to align himself with Pete Wilson and Kris Kobach.   Other known extremists such as the Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, and the ousted former Arizona State Senator  Russell Pearce have also gotten behind him.  This does not come as a surprise to us since we witnessed nativist and former Congressman Tom Tancredo endorse Romney in 2007.  In fact, Romney designated controversial Sheriff Joe Arpaio as his Arizona Chair when he ran against Senator John McCain during the 2008 GOP primaries.

We now live in an Information Age where Americans receive their news via YouTube, the internet and social networking – and as a result of the digital footprint now made available to us, the Karl Rovian way is becoming more of an ineffective antiquated strategy.  We are now able to file away and organize flip-flops when it comes to stances politicians have taken regarding government policy.

Elis Foley with the Huffington Post writes:

Romney has said repeatedly that he supports the Arizona’s right to pass such a law and would drop a federal lawsuit against it were he elected — perhaps not an explicit endorsement, but one that implies he supports the law, at least for Arizona.

Romney also has advocated for what he called “self-deportation,” or making things difficult for undocumented immigrants until they decide to leave, one of the central tenets of the Arizona law. One of his informal advisers on immigration, SB 1070 architect and Kansas secretary of state Kris Kobach, supports the law as a model for nationwide enforcement.

“[Self-deportation] is in SB 1070,” Pearce said.

As the GOP scrambles desperately for an effort to woo the Latino vote in light of an election cycle, many of us will remember that no leading Republican

Senate Bill 1070 Signed Into Law By Arizona Governor Jan Brewer who recently endorsed Mitt Romney for 2012 President

organizations stood strong against SB1070 in 2010 when the immigration issue reached a fevered pitch except for one –  SOMOS REPUBLICANS.  SOMOS was widely known for being the only Republican organization in the nation that stood against the anti-immigrant SB 1070 law when Republican Gov. Jan Brewer signed the bill into action. Latinos were ultimately left to fend for themselves in Arizona.  Several conservative leaning groups (including Hispanic Republican groups) supported the Arizona governor.  We were dismayed when we heard Senator Marco Rubio’s support of the Arizona harsh anti-immigrant law.

The Republican Party lacked foresight and leadership with regard to an issue near and dear to Latinos,  and now they must face the music and become the Party of personal responsibility.  The RNC turned a blind eye to several Republican lawmakers who supported anti-immigrant policies. They also turned a blind eye to the many hostile remarks regarding the treatment of immigrants. RNC leadership was nowhere to be found, until now because now they want our vote.

While it is true that President Obama did not give us immigration reform during his first year as President, Latinos must go back in American history and figure out why.  We need to remind ourselves that there have been no recent American Presidents who tackled comprehensive immigration reform within their first term.  Former President Ronald Reagan did not give immigrant amnesty until he was re-elected as President.  Former President George W. Bush did not address comprehensive immigration reform until his second term because he did not believe there was an immigration problem to begin with.  The only President that supported immigrant-friendly policies during his first term as President was Benjamin Harrison and he did not get re-elected for a second term.

Should it be a complete surprise to us that President Obama has not confronted immigration during his first term?  The immigration issue has become one of the most toxic issues in our time since the Republican Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo launched his restrictionist Immigration Reform Caucus.   Meanwhile, myth-maker  (R-TX) Congressman Lamar Smith has been busy writing opinion after opinion falsely accusing President Obama as a supporter of amnesty even though he knows Obama has deported more immigrants than Bush.  The anti-immigrant sentiment continued to mount when Florida’s Cuban-American Sen. Marco Rubio stated Ronald Reagan erred in supporting  the 1986 amnesty for immigrants (despite the Cuban amnesty afforded to his own family).

So what options are Latinos left with as we revisit the painful wounds of SB 1070 during  2012?

Here are some options:

1)     We can take our chances with a President who is going to enter his second term as President because he no longer has to worry about getting re-elected

2)     Or, we could gamble away our vote with a candidate who has solid ties to Kris Kobach, (the architect behind many of these anti-immigrant and DREAM Act laws), Pete Wilson, Jan Brewer, and Russell Pearce who are all promoters of the infamous self-deportation law via SB 1070.

Unless there is a brokered GOP Convention, there really is no third option for Latinos.

Let us be honest –  I do not believe a President will ever address immigration reform within his first term.  Just the same, I do not believe Latinos are willing to gamble with a candidate that has made deals with devils via Pete Wilson, Kris Kobach, Joe Arpaio’s  posse, and the vast majority of the Archie Bunker wing.

Extremist and nativist Arizona Governor Jan Brewer endorses Mitt Romney for the GOP nominee

Sunday, April 15th, 2012

Recently the defeated and former Senator Russell Pearce stated he had a ‘connection’ to the 2012 Republican Presidential candidate — Mitt Romney. That connection is nativist ideology and anti-immigrant extremism they both have with their support for self deportation policies.  Both politicians have ties to Kris Kobach who is the legal architect to many of these voter suppression laws while attacking our 14th amendment of the United States Constitution.

According to HUFFPO:

After dining at a Tea Party event on Tuesday, former Arizona state Senate President Russell Pearce proclaimed his support for Romney, citing similar views on immigration as his key reason.

“His immigration policy is identical to mine,” Pearce said, according to The Washington Post. “Attrition by enforcement. It’s identical to mine — enforce the laws.”

After serving 10 years as a state legislator, Pearce was voted out of office last November in a special recall election. His lead role in crafting S.B. 1070 (Arizona’s controversial immigration law), along with his ties to a college football bowl game scandal, were contributing factors behind that loss.

Now that Romney has secured the endorsement of nativist and Tea Party extremist Russell Pearce, he is joined by our whacky State Governor — Jan Brewer.  The more Mitt Romney receives endorsements from Tea Party extremists, the heavier that millstone will get around his neck.

From THINK PROGRESS:

Nativist Gov. Jan Brewer Endorses Romney | On Meet the Press this morning, Gov. Jan Brewer (R-AZ) endorsed Mitt Romney for President. Although Brewer offered little explanation for her decision, citing only Romney’s “pro-business background” and his “political history,” it is not the least bit surprising that one of the nation’s leading nativist politicians is now backing Romney. Brewer signed SB 1070, the first of a wave of anti-immigrant bills authored by Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach (R), who has also endorsed Romney. Romney also campaigned with Kobach on Martin Luther King Day, despite the fact that Kobach is an attorney with the legal arm of an organization the Southern Poverty Law Center designates a “nativist hate group.” Watch Brewer’s endorsement here.

Arizona-based Female Led Movement to Protest Pete Wilson and Mitt Romney in California

Tequila Party Rallying Points Protesting Pete Wilson and Mitt Romney

Phoenix, AZ –Latinos are fighting the sentiment of California’s Proposition 187  in the new millennium again via Pete Wilson.  Mitt Romney has received the endorsement of Wilson who is kryptonite to Latinos, and it is unfortunate old mistakes that precede the Civil Rights era is rearing its ugly head.  Tequila Party movement members, leaders, and a broad coalition of California DREAM Act activists will be protesting Pete Wilson and Mitt Romney at their California fundraising events this upcoming week beginning March 26 through 27, 2012.

It is common knowledge that Pete Wilson is kryptonite to Latinos and has been ever since after he signed Proposition 187.  Pete Wilson is viewed as an extreme anti-Latino politician in the State of California and it is arguable that he cost Meg Whitman her election in 2010 when she ran for California Governor.

It is clear the California GOP cannot seem to learn from their Pete Wilson mistakes because they continue to support him and his endorsement of Mitt Romney.  The presidential race cannot be won without the Latino vote and this was evident in other high Hispanic populated states in the southwest.

According to TIME Magazine:

“But instead of learning the [Pete] Wilson lesson, Republicans have repeated the error across the Mountain West. In 2010 the Nevada GOP’s Senate candidate, Sharron Angle, ran ads that reprised the black-and-white images of menacing Latinos crossing the border. (“The best friend an illegal alien ever had” was her tagline for Senate majority leader Harry Reid, who won overwhelming support from Latino voters.)”

Tequila Party troops are protesting Mitt Romney due to his endorsement of Kris Kobach who is the legal architect behind most  anti-immigrant laws in this nation that are restrictionist and protectionist in their nature.  Extremists and nativists via Kris Kobach, John Tanton, FAIR (with ties to white supremacist groups and eugenicists and have made many racist statements), and Numbers USA believe that the answer to the broken immigration system is to simply have no immigration at all – and this is not reasonable solution.   Furthermore, Mitt Romney promised to VETO the DREAM Act; therefore, Mexican-Americans and Latinos promise to VETO Mitt Romney at the polls.

PROTEST ALERT ACTIONS AND LOCATIONS:

Protest Pete Wilson and Mitt Romney rally:  March 26, 2012, 11:30 AM- San Diego, U.S. Grant Hotel.

Protest Meg Whitman and Mitt Romney rally:  Monday, March 26, 2012, 5:30 PM- Redwood City, Hotel Sofitel San Francisco Bay

Protest David Horowitz and Mitt Romney:  Tuesday, March 27, 2012, 12:00 PM, Irvine, Private Home of David Horowitz

Protest Tony Strickland, former Los Angeles mayor Richard Riordan, former state GOP chair Shawn Steel and Mitt Romney:  Tuesday, March 27, 2012, 6:00 pm Los Angeles, Century Plaza Hotel

Latinos in 2012 are fighting Prop 187 mentality all over again with Mitt Romney and Pete Wilson

The Kansas Compact finally gets introduced by Rep. Louis Ruiz with Tequila Party Movement Support

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

Finally!  The KANSAS COMPACT  efforts by non-partisan and Latina-led political movement is penetrating the Heart of America in Kansas!  The Tequila Party has headquarters in Arizona (immigration ground zero) and we are fighting Tea Party extremism.

The KANSAS COMPACT and the COMPACT WITH AMERICA needs support from all sides of the political spectrum and support cannot come from just one political aisle.  The Tequila Party Movement consists of Independents, Democrats, Republicans, and Libertarian voters and it is going to take all efforts from all sides to set this nation back on a course that remembers our immigrant history.  Immigrants have made this nation great.

We want to congratulate Kansas Rep. Louis Ruiz for introducing this bill and for his leadership.  We felt this was necessary when Kansas Rep. Virgil Peck made the violent remark when he advocated the shooting of immigrants like hogs.  We hope to see a positive outcome from a horrible black eye Virgil Peck left Kansas with.

As you know might already know, the Tequila Party is a counter movement to the extremist Tea Party Movement.  The Tequila Party Movement is a group that motivates Latinos to get out and vote and vote for pro immigrant politicians.  We need the Kansas Compact to be passed since Kris Kobach (also advises anti-immigrant 2012 Republican Presidential candidate — Mitt Romney) is the architect behind many anti-DREAM Act, anti-immigrant laws, and his attacks on our 14th amendment via birthright citizenship laws.   Kris Kobach has ties to white nationalist and anti-semitic John Tanton.

From DOS MUNDOS:

On Feb. 16, Kansas Rep. Louis Ruiz introduced a bill into the Kansas Legislature  as a call for responsible immigration reform resulting from respectful, humane dialogue: the Kansas Compact.
The compact is an outgrowth of the Tequila Party movement. Founded during the summer of 2011, the Tequila Party emerged as a response to growing public and legislative anti-immigrant sentiment. The non-partisan group seeks to empower Hispanics through initiatives such as increasing voter registration and the compact, which details principles to guide the legislature in writing laws that affect undocumented immigrants.
“Tequila spearheaded this (compact) for several years (by) trying to initiate different states to introduce it,” Ruiz said. “We tried to introduce it last year, but it didn’t go anywhere.”
Readers will probably remember 2011 as the year of the Kansas voter identification law and the potential repeal of in-state tuition for undocumented students. The controversial laws are followed this year by a bevy of new immigration legislation, including a mandate forcing all employers to use E-Verify and another law intended to turn Kansas law enforcement officers into immigration officers, a la Arizona’s controversial Senate Bill 1070.

DOS MUNDOS Editor’s note:

The compact is based on the Tequila Party’s Compact with America.

Compact With America

A declaration of five principles to guide America’s immigration discussion:
Federal solutions – Immigration is a federal policy issue between the U.S. government and other countries, not individual states and other countries. We urge Congress and others to lead efforts to strengthen federal laws and protect our national borders. We urge state leaders to adopt reasonable policies addressing immigrants in America.

Law enforcement – We respect the rule of law and support law enforcement’s professional judgment and discretion. Local law enforcement resources should focus on criminal activities, not civil violations of federal code.

Families – Strong families are the foundation of successful communities. We oppose policies that unnecessarily separate families. We champion policies that support families and improve the health, education and wellbeing of all American children.

Economy – America is best served by a free-market philosophy that maximizes individual freedom and opportunity. We acknowledge the economic role immigrants play as workers and taxpayers. America’s immigration policies must reaffirm our global reputation as a welcoming and businessfriendly state.

A free society – Immigrants are integrated into communities across America. We must adopt a humane approach to this reality, reflecting our unique culture, history and spirit of inclusion. The way we treat immigrants will say more about us as a free society and less about our immigrant neighbors. America should always be a place that welcomes people of good will.

The Latin Pulse with Regard to Arizona Elections 2012

Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

Arizona has been described as one of the most extremist states in the Union.  The City of Mesa, Arizona, happens to be a city

future Hispanic voters in southwest 2012

where the Mormon Temple is located and Mormons tend to be very organized and they did an effective job mobilizing for Mitt Romney here in our state.

I am aware of several Latino Republicans who switched their affiliation from being a Republican to now as an Independent voter(s).   That said Independent voters like myself were unable to vote in the primary elections.

I see a clear problem within the GOP where it appears the evangelicals are distrustful of Romney’s religious and political  views.  For instance, Hispanic evangelicals appear to be in support of Newt Gingrich, while Caucasian evangelicals and pro life leaders seems to be putting their support behind Rick Santorum.  Hispanic evangelicals have communicated to me that if Newt Gingrich does not win the Republican Nominee – they will vote for President Obama in 2012.   Similarly from the 2008 elections, we witnessed Republicans who were not so motivated to vote for Sen. John McCain when several GOP leaders stated they ‘would hold their noses and vote’ for him, however, this shows they were not really enthused. I see that sentiment today where Republicans are simply not enthused with the GOP choices being presented today.

GOP Presidential hopefuls are avoiding the large Latin immigrant elephant in the room.  They are not speaking the truth with regard to how immigration is directly tied into the economic issue.  For instance, under the George W. Bush administration, Republicans spoke positively with regard to the economic contributions immigrants gave to the American economy.  Today….we don’t see that because the immigration issue is being used as a political football by the Republican Party due our having a Democratic President.   Republicans fear a JFK part deux via Obama because they know how many loyal Latino Democratic voters exists today.

If the Democratic Party applies their 2008 Colorado blue print strategy in Arizona, Arizona could swing towards Obama during 2012.  Latino Get Out the Vote organizations like the National Tequila Party Movement will continue to motivate Latinos to be a voice via their vote for the voiceless undocumented.  We have spoken to DREAMers who would cut off their right arm to be able to vote.  Eligible Latin voters have a responsibility to vote and to vote for the candidate who supports the DREAM Act as well as the CIR efforts.  We are tired of lip service and the political football game.  We need to see action and Senate pro immigration support from all high Hispanic populated states or these senators and congressmen and women might lose their jobs particularly in the southwestern part of the United States.

Protest Mitt Romney and Tea Party tonight at Arizona Republican Debate!

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

The National Tequila Party Movement is protesting Mitt Romney and Tea Party supporters tonight!  JOIN US!

When: February 22, 2012
Where: Mesa Arts Center
One East Main Street,
Mesa, AZ 85201
Time: 4:30 pm
Why: 2012 Presidential GOP Candidate stated he would veto the DREAM
Act if President; therefore, Latinos are promising to veto Mitt
Romney at the polls.

Tequila Party to Protest Mitt Romney and Tea Party at Arizona GOP CNN Debate

Be a Voice for the Voiceless Undocumented! Vote on February 28th in Arizona Primaries!

Monday, February 20th, 2012

Dear Arizona Advocates of Latino and Immigrant Rights:

Please don’t forget to vote on February 28th!

I am the immediate past President of SOMOS REPUBLICANS, now the co-President and Foundress of the National Tequila Party Movement. I stepped down as President of SOMOS REPUBLICANS for a number of reasons not limited to switching my affiliation as a registered Republican voter to an Independent voter. The Associated Press contacted me last week for a story they were covering regarding the Arizona primary elections. I gave them names of Latino Mormon individuals who equate Mitt Romney’s harsh anti-immigrant tone to Russell Pearce’s harsh anti-immigrant stance. As you might already know, we are furious with Romney’s Kris Kobach endorsement and his recent endorsement by Pete Wilson. Kris Kobach is the legal architect behind many of these anti- immigrant laws and he affiliates himself with white nationalist — John Tanton via FAIR or Federation for American Immigration Reform.

I hope to see more Hispanic Mormons denounce Romney’s anti-immigrant views because in my view he is taking our nation backward from efforts we continue to fight for. I am disgusted that Romney will not even support the Utah Compact which is modeled after the Mayflower Compact and could set our nation back on a healthy view towards immigrants. Mitt Romney has been kicking Latinos down during one of the most difficult Latino eras in history. In fact, I believe it was Romney who moved Senator John McCain further to the right in 2007 and in 2008 during the 08 Presidential GOP Primary elections. I have had it with Mr. Romney’s populist approach in demonizing my people for the sake of his political expediency. Enough is enough.

On a different note, the Tequila Party Movement knows the Tea Party Movement is not really asleep. We believe the Tea Party supporters will come out in full scale as soon as the Republican Primaries are finished. The Tequila Party is waiting and fully prepared to counter their anti-immigrant rhetoric. We believe anti-immigrant sentiment is antiquated and we will continue to fight for social justice and humane laws to fellow mankind.

More importantly, we will continue to motivate eligible voting Latinos to get out and vote because we have a responsibility to BE A VOICE FOR THE VOICELESS UNDOCUMENTED! Our voting numbers will be a force to reckon with as we show Washington D.C. that Latinos WILL vote and be a voice for the voiceless.

Sincerely,

DeeDee Garcia Blase

From TIME Magazine:

Latino Mormons Speak Out Against Romney

By AP / RUSSELL CONTRERAS Monday, Feb. 20, 2012

(ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.) — When Honduran-born Antonella Cecilia Packard converted to the Mormon Faith 20 years ago, she said it was like “coming home.”

The Catholic-educated Packard, who grew up in “the middle of Mayan ruins,” appreciated the faith’s strong sense of family and conservative values. She also saw her own history in the Book of Mormon with stories of migrations, tragedies and triumphs of a people many Mormons believe are the ancestors of some present-day Latinos.

But two decades after her conversion while a college student at Mississippi State, the 43-year-old Packard finds herself on a new mission: defeating Mitt Romney and any Mormon politician who betrays what she sees as a basic Mormon principle of protecting immigrants.

As Romney continues to seek the Republican presidential nomination while rarely discussing his faith, a growing number of vocal Hispanic Mormons say they intend to use Mormon teachings as a reason to convince others not to vote for him. They have held firesides (equivalent to a tent revival) on immigration, protested outside of Romney campaign events and have traveled across state lines to help defeat other Mormon politicians with similar harsh immigration stances.

“Yes, we are happy that we have a Mormon running for president,” said Packard, a Saratoga Springs, Utah, resident and member of Somos (We are) Republicans. “But a lot of us aren’t supporting him because of his stance against immigrants.”

While stressing the Mormon faith’s historic connection to converting immigrants, Latino Mormons point directly to immigration stories in the Book of Mormon and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ recent statements against policies targeting immigrants. They also view Romney’s stance against proposals giving illegal immigrants a path to citizenship as hypocritical since Romney’s great-grandfather, Miles Park Romney, who had five wives and 30 children, sought refuge in Mexico after passage of an 1882 law that barred polygamy.

Latino Group Demands Apology from Hispanic Leadership Network for lack of consistency and Latino Hypocrisy

Monday, February 20th, 2012

Unbelievable.

The Hispanic Leadership Network (HLN) is asking for an apology from the Obama 2012 Campaign manager after their own organization has received monies and sponsorship support from the very Prison Systems that benefit from housing the non-criminal element of undocumented immigrants.  They support prison systems  wasting millions and millions of dollars in tax payer monies due to  their lack of “smart enforcement.” That said, the Tequila Party Movement is asking for an apology from HLN.

We are demanding that the Hispanic Leadership Network  take a look at themselves first before pretending to advocate for Hispanics.

Where was the HLN at when Mitt Romney received the endorsement of Kris Kobach who is the architect behind all anti-immigrant and anti-Latino laws?

Where was the HLN at when Mitt Romney received Republican — Pete Wilson’s endorsement in California knowing full well that it was Pete Wilson’s extremist anti-immigrant views that painted the State of California “Democratic Blue?”

Where was the HLN at when Mitt Romney stated he would veto our Hispanic youth via the DREAM Act?

When will the HLN return the sponsorship money from all of those prison systems and corporations that house the non-criminal element of the undocumented?

Where was the HLN at when Texas DREAM Act Student, Joaquin Luna,  took his life because he felt he had no hope?

Where was the HLN at when Republican Lawmaker Virgil Peck advocated the shooting of immigrants like feral hogs?

Indeed Jim Messina made a chimichanga remark but what about the blood money on HLN’s hands from the prison systems who benefit from American Tax Payer dollars to house the non criminal element of the undocumented immigrant?

HLN needs to be careful in pointing “anti-Latino” fingers at others when 5 can be pointed right back at them.

(Above) Hispanic Leadership Network Receives Sponsorship Support from Prison systems housing the non criminal element of undocumented immigrants wasting millions of American Tax Payer Dollars. Smart enforcement ought to be exercised.

A forwarded email that was sent to me today from Jennifer Korn, Executive Director HLN:

You should be aware that today there was a ridiculous tweet from Obama 2012 campaign manager Jim Messina. Messina’s tweet said, “Line of the day from WAPO’s Dana Milbank: ‘The chimichanga? It may be the only thing Republicans have left to offer Latinos.’”

No matter what your political affiliation is, it is insulting to our community. Our country faces serious problems and instead of the President’s own campaign manager talking about the issues, he thinks it is okay to insult us.

OBAMA CAMPAIGN MANAGER’S JOKE IS
NO LAUGHING MATTER TO LATINOS

Hispanic Leadership Network Demands Apology from President and His Campaign

WASHINGTON, DC – Hispanic Leadership Network (HLN) Executive Director Jennifer Sevilla Korn today issued the following statement in response to a tweet from Obama 2012 Campaign Manager Jim Messina, saying: “Line of the day from WAPO’s Dana Milbank: ‘The chimichanga? It may be the only thing Republicans have left to offer Latinos.’”

“The fact that the campaign manager of President Obama’s reelection campaign thinks it’s appropriate to disseminate insulting jokes about the Hispanic community is a perfect example of the kind of empty rhetoric that characterizes this White House’s so-called outreach to Latinos. We demand that Mr. Messina immediately apologize and we ask that President Obama disavow his campaign manager’s ridiculous statement. Liberals are always trying to put Hispanics in a box. In typical fashion, when liberals cannot speak substantively to the top issues facing our community, they resort to name calling.

“The facts remain the same, and they are no laughing matter. President Obama broke his campaign promises to the Hispanic community on jobs and immigration. Our community is suffering from over 11% unemployment rate. In addition, President Obama has deported more immigrants than any other U.S. president in history. When confronted with his record, this President has no standing with Hispanic voters across our country.”
