Rep. Joaquín Castro elected president of freshman Democrats — 113th Congress — Would make excellent VEEP choice for 2016

Want to mobilize the largest share within the Hispanic voting bloc?

Mexican-Americans make up almost 70% of the Latin population … and if you want to energize us, consider a Texas Chicano like Joaquín Castro as Vice Presidential material in 2016!  The real trick will be for the Obama administration to pass legal immigration reform in 2013.

Orale! And congratulations to Joaquín being elected as President!

According to San Antone news:

San Antonio Rep. Joaquín Castro was elected by his peers Friday to serve as president of the freshman class of Democrats in the 113th Congress.

The honor was bestowed upon the San Antonio lawmaker as freshmen received their committee assignments for the upcoming legislative session.

Both Castro and Rep. Pete Gallego, D-Alpine, will serve on the House Armed Services Committee.

Gallego represents the sweeping congressional district that includes San Antonio and El Paso in far West Texas.

Rep. Lamar Smith, the only Republican in the San Antonio congressional delegation, will serve as chairman of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee.

Rep. Lloyd Doggett, an Austin Democrat whose district includes downtown San Antonio, will continue to serve on the Budget and tax-writing Ways and Means committees.
