Sen. Marco Rubio Denounces Heritage Immigration Study — Sen. Ted Cruz shows no leadership on Gang of 8 Immigration Despite the Millions of Mexican-Americans Living in Texas

I believe in giving credit where credit is due.

As a Mexican-American, I am glad the Cuban-American Senator Marco Rubio is denouncing the Heritage Immigration Study.  We are glad to see this because Kris Kobach was the legal architect of Arizona’s SB1070, and also a non staff member at The Heritage Foundation.

Florida’s Sen Rubio stated:

“Their argument is based on a single premise, which I think is flawed,” Rubio told reporters. “That is these people are disproportionately poor because they have no education and they will be poor for the rest of their lives in the U.S. Quite frankly that’s not the immigration experience in the U.S. That’s certainly not my family’s experience in the U.S. The folks described in that report are my family. My mother and dad didn’t graduate high school and I would not say they were a burden on the United States…My parents were a lot better off 25 years after they emigrated here than they were when they first got here. And their children certainly have been. I still think we’re that country. And I still think we can be that country and even more in the future, so I guess I just have a lot more belief in the future of the country than some of the folks that helped prepare [the report].”

Rubio is from Florida showing leadership while we are seeing the Texas Cuban-American Senator Ted Cruz still missing in action

The tail has been wagging the dog, but it will be time for the dog to wag the tail. Rubio had better do better than to offer Mexicans and undocumented Latinos table scraps.

with regard to the Gang of 8 comprehensive immigration reform that will fix the clearly broken immigration system.  Did you know that Texas shares 64% of the southern border with Mexico yet there is no leadership from Cruz?

Why isn’t Cuban-American Ted Cruz showing CIR leadership in his own State that is home to millions and millions of Mexican-Americans?!

Almost half of the Texas population is of Mexican descent, yet the Cuban – American Senator Ted Cruz doesn’t seem to care to support the Gang of 8 legal immigration fix.

Sen. Ted Cruz who is the son of a Cuban immigrant has family in the United States that have migrated to our Country and have benefited from privileged Cuban amnesty via the Cuban Adjustment Act.

You will hear Cruz try to play your heart strings when he tells a (pretend sob story) on how his daddy came to the States with $100 bucks sown into his underwear.

According to FOX NEWS:

Cruz’s father Rafael is a pastor outside Dallas. He fought with Fidel Castro’s rebels in Cuba before Castro took power and eventually embraced communism, and the elder Cruz fled to the U.S. with nothing but $100 sowed into his underwear.

But according to the inflation calculator, $100.00 back then is equivalent to $826.21 today.  That is a whole helluva lot more money than the dying immigrant crossing the desert comes here with.  Many immigrants crossing the desert die of dehydration.

On Legal Immigration Reform — New York Senator Schumer on right track regarding a system to better track people

Thursday, April 25th, 2013

I love this New York Senator Schumer with regard to some of the progress I see on legal comprehensive immigration reform discussions.

Senator John McCain and Senator Chuck Schumer part of the Gang of 8

Senator John McCain and Senator Chuck Schumer part of the Gang of 8

mmw_fingerprints_061809_articleAs we all know, far right wingers have taken advantage of  home grown terrorist activities during the Oklahoma City Bombing and they also used the national tragedies of 9-11 to advance their anti-immigrant agenda in an unhealthy way that has kept millions in the shadows of society.  We need to know who is here.

As a proud veteran of the United States Armed Forces, I want to underscore that the 2013 Legal immigration reform bill is a major step forward in securing our Nation because only after everyone is registered and documented will we know who is in our Nation and where we can find them. We know that once we fix the broken immigration system, and once we document all immigrants — then they can feel safe to help law enforcement agencies to target criminal activity without the fear of deportation when they report suspicious activity to the law enforcement authorities. Therefore, bringing the immigrants out of the shadows will only strengthen our Nation’s security.

Schumer is on the right track from a National Security standpoint!

From USATODAY:

Several Republican members of Congress have tried to slow down the bill. And Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, the highest-ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said the Boston Marathon bombings should prompt lawmakers to more closely scrutinize the national security implications of the Gang of Eight’s immigration bill.

Schumer dismissed such talk, saying their bill “might’ve made a difference” in the Boston case. Part of the bill requires the Department of Homeland Security to implement a system to better track every time someone enters and exits the United States, and that could have avoided one of the possible missteps in the Boston case.

BREAKING: The Senate Summary of Legal Comprehensive Immigration Reform (Modernization Act of 2013)

Tuesday, April 16th, 2013

It is imperative we read the Summary and Outline of the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013.  Keep in mind that this is not the final bill as there are going to be numerous hearings and amendments.

I encourage you to read this and remember that we are better off now than we were a year ago when the GOP would only discuss self-deportation ideas. I received the Senate Summary information from David Leopold who is the immediate past President of AILA.

You can see this summary here:  revised-outline-of-immigration-bill-4-15-2

Texas Congressman Joaquin Castro is a representative that understand the immigration hardships. Texas has the longest border length with Mexico (64%) and he understands the problems and solutions to fix this broken immigration system. His statement includes: ““As a Texan who has witnessed the hardships our broken immigration system presents for immigrants and their families, my friends and neighbors, it is very important to me that we finally resolve this long-debated issue. We need to overhaul our current immigration system by working on a comprehensive solution that includes an earned path to citizenship and a continuation of our border enforcement. President Obama has made immigration reform a top priority for his administration, and I thank him for his leadership. I am also encouraged to see a group of bipartisan Senators making progress by finding common ground on this issue. As we move forward, it is essential that any legislation includes objective measures for border enforcement that seriously examine the state of our current immigration system and make processing of those already in the system efficient, so that American citizenship for those in the back of the line is not just an illusion. We cannot keep moving the goal posts on meaningful reform. I am hopeful and look forward to a bipartisan solution to this important American issue.”

Comprehensive Immigration Reform Press Conference Delayed in light of the Boston Bombing until Friday

Monday, April 15th, 2013

Just in via Shirl Mora James, a Civil Rights and Immigration Lawyer and President of SOMOS INDEPENDENTS (woman-led movement in support of legal immigration reform).

The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Press Conference has been cancelled by the Gang of 8 in light of the Boston bombing incident.

This information has been confirmed.  According to David Nakamura of the WAPOST:

A group of Senators has delayed a high-profile announcement of a sweeping immigration reform proposal set for Tuesday because of the bombings at the Boston Marathon.

The eight-member group was scheduled to appear at an 11 a.m. news conference at the Dirksen Senate Building, joined by immigration advocates and other stakeholders, to lay out the details of the legislation that would represent the most ambitious overhaul of the U.S. immigration system in three decades.

“All eight senators believed the focus should be on victims, not other issues,” a Senate aide said late Monday. The group still intends to file the bill on Tuesday but will hold the news conference on another day.

Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), a member of the group, said in a message on his Twitter account: “Thoughts & prayers are with everyone in Boston.”

The Senate Judiciary Committee has scheduled two hearings on the bill for Friday and Monday.

Arizona Tequila Party Revolutionary Red Shirts Depict Sheriff Joe Arpaio as the Devil or El Diablo

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013

We’ve been writing about the Tequila Party Concert and CD launch to be held in Phoenix this Friday.

Date:  Friday, April 5, 2013

Time:  7:00 pm

Location:The Lot -  1005 North Second Street, Phoenix, AZ.

The Tequila Party CD and our concert is a political expression via art and music to push for fixing the broken immigration system.  Artists contributing to this cause believe in a humane and legal immigration plan.  We support the DREAM Act and more importantly, we believe in Mexican-American / Chicano / Latin empowerment. We know that leadership must arise from the ethnic community (via the Mexican-Americans) who have been most hurt and most affected.  It is a fact that the majority of those who are being deported are of Mexican descent.  Mexican-Americans are a rising population muscle and they account for almost 70% of the Latino population pie.  It is time to stand firm against  what politicians in Arizona refer to as “Operation Wetback.”  It is time to support and defend those who are afraid to defend themselves.

That said, we are also selling t-shirts that depict bully Sheriff Joe Arpaio as the devil or el diablo in revolutionary red (see below image).  The t-shirt design was created by the fine artist El Moises — an artist of Arizona.   The State of Arizona may try to bring our spirits down — but it is through adversity that makes us work harder and with fervor.  Politicians may try to eliminate Chicano or Ethnic Studies and our history, but that history will be sought out and live in our hearts forever.

Arizona Anunciar El Lanzamiento De Un CD De Música Humanitario Que Promueve La Inmigración Legal y Adquirida

2016 Clinton and Bush redux? Jeb Bush/Marco Rubio, Hillary Clinton/Joaquin Castro or Joe Biden/Castro?

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013

Have you ever wondered why Senator Marco Rubio (out of the blue)  is now wanting to be a type of immigration savior all of a sudden?  The Republican Party got spanked by women and Mexican-American voters when they overwhelmingly lost during the November 6, 2012, elections.

Keep in mind that Senator Marco Rubio stated his support for Arizona’s SB 1070 law and now wants to be some sort of immigration champion after he kicked the Mexicans when they were down and out before Nov. 6th.  Rubio supported SB 1070 and also did not support the DREAM Act.  The undocumented sure could have used his help in December 2010 when the DREAM Act was under a vote, but Rubio repeatedly stated he did not support the DREAM.

What could this mean?

In my opinion, it could mean that Jeb Bush wants to run for President of the United States in 2016 and is looking to secure Florida.  You see …. Obama won Florida in 2012, too.

There is one problem though: The Republican National Committee has not changed it’s anti-immigration stance with regard to their platform and how it supports Arizona-like laws regarding immigrants.  The RNC should have reversed it’s platform yesterday and there is going to be an ugly division within the GOP soon.

Can Rubio be trusted on his immigration views after he supported SB 1070?

Will there be talks of Jeb Bush / Marco Rubio ticket in 2016?

What about a Hillary Clinton and Joaquin Castro ticket in 2016?

President of SOMOS INDEPENDENTS, Shirl Mora James (Civil Rights and Immigration lawyer) is already pulling for a Clinton / Castro ticket.

She writes:

Will Hillary Clinton run knowing full well that women and Mexican-Americans and Latinos overwhelmingly supported Obama in 2012?

Joe Biden will more than likely run, but he does not really seem to bring anything fresh or new to the table.

Heaven forbid another Clinton and Bush redux — but it is a possibility.

(Video) Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Russell Pearce Piñatas a favorite at Arizona Latino Christmas Posada Parties

Tuesday, December 18th, 2012

Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Russell Pearce Piñatas are becoming a favorite at Arizona Latino Christmas Posada

Left Piñata of Russell Pearce, the Right Piñata is of Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Parties this year. See video below.

The moral of the piñata is that all are justified through blind faith, and that is what Arizona Mexican-Americans are going to count on as we fill dictator-types (such as Arpaio and Pearce) with candy and helping kids overcome their fears from Arizona hate laws, and the lawmakers who implemented them. We are turning a negative situation into a positive one because the history of the piñata goes way back to Catholic religious views and Catechism.

Now before people get their panties in a bunch, you can learn more on the history of the piñata from Mex-Connect:

At the beginning of the 16th century the Spanish missionaries to North America used the piñata to attract converts to their ceremonies. However indigenous peoples already had a similar tradition. To celebrate the birthday of the Aztec god of war, Huitzilopochtli, priests placed a clay pot on a pole in the temple at year’s end. Colorful feathers adorned the richly decorated pot, filled with tiny treasures.. When broken with a stick or club, the treasures fell to the feet of the god’s image as an offering. The Mayans, great lovers of sport played a game where the player’s eyes were covered while hitting a clay pot suspended by string. The missionaries ingeniously transformed these games for religious instruction. They covered the traditional pot with colored paper, giving it an extraordinary, perhaps fearful appearance.  …

Thus, the piñata reflected three theological virtues in the catequismo. (religious instruction or catechism)

The blindfolded participant represents the leading force in defying evil, ‘Fe’, faith, which must be blind. People gathered near the player and spun him around to confuse his sense of space. Sometimes the turns numbered thirty three in memory of the life of Christ. The voices of others cry out guidance:

¡Más arriba! More upwards!
¡Abajo! Lower!
¡Enfrente! In front!

Some call out engaños (deceits, or false directions) to disorient the hitter.

Secondly the piñata served as a symbol of ‘Esperanza’, Hope.

With the piñata hanging above their heads, people watched towards los cielos (sky or heaven) yearning and waiting for the prize. The stick for breaking the piñata symbolized virtue, as only good can overcome evil. Once broken, the candies and fruits represented the just reward for keeping faith.

Finally the piñata symbolized ‘Caridad’, Charity. With its eventual breaking, everyone shared in the divine blessings and gifts.

The moral of the piñata: all are justified through faith.

FLASHBACK: Mitt Romney made Sheriff Joe Arpaio his Arizona Chair

Here’s a reminder of when Mitt Romney made sheriff Joe Arpaio his Arizona chair.

Arizona outsiders are forgetting that a Latino Veteran who served our Nation was also killed in Arpaio’s prison.
