Photos of the Tequila Party Protest against Sheriff Joe Arpaio after another Latino inmate death in his prison

Tuesday, June 12th, 2012

Here are some photos from tonight’s protest of Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s prison.  Most of these photos were taken by Gail Shoultes and some were taken by me.  We will post more video and more stories up tomorrow.  (I) Mike Stauffer for Sheriff and (D) John Rowan for Sheriff supporters were there to protest the corrupt Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office — and Paul Penzone (handpicked by Maricopa County Democratic Leader Ann Wallack before the Democratic primary election) was nowhere in sight.

Channel 3 broke the story and we organized quickly regarding another Latino death that occurred in Arpaio’s prison. Raymond Farinas died suddenly and we hope to see the autopsy results soon, particularly when they beat and tasered Marty Atencio to death in December 2011.  Latinos are dying in Arpaio’s prison, and we believe it is a reasonable request to have the MCSO report to  the public with regard to deaths in the Maricopa County jails.  We are asking this in the name of Marty Atencio who served our country honorably and was a veteran of the Armed Forces.  Marty’s blood is in Arpaio’s hands and there needs to be justice.  Latinos will no longer be silent in our state.  Why did it take so long for us to know about a Latino death that occurred on June 3, 2012?  This is an outrage and it appears there is no supervision over the Maricopa County Jail and their activities!  We have asked the County Counselor to investigate the case of Marty to no avail. We are now asking the FBI to investigate the corruption that is occurring at the MCSO.

Letter to Maricopa County Counselor Bill Montgomery regarding formal investigation on Latino Veteran Death under Arpaio’s supervision

UNIVISION Phoenix covered the story very very well and this story was their top story.  They gave a lot of attention and mentioned the Latino Veteran Marty Atencio, too.
