Mitt Romney simply cannot boost military morale after dodging the draft and after a decade of wars implemented by Bush

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012

Mitt Romney simply cannot boost military morale after dodging the draft and after a decade of wars implemented by Bush.  Heck, Romney is unable to convince retired military veterans via  votevets.org let alone those who are currently serving and are tired of being deployed more than once to other global communities.

As a woman veteran of the Armed Forces, I take issue with people like Romney who want to become our Commander in Chief — yet, Mitt dodged the draft 4 timesPerhaps I might be more open to Mitt’s request of increasing our $2.1 trillion in defense if he had put his own ass on the line.  What does Romney want an increase of $2.1 trillion for?  It smells of war mongering to me, and Americans need to start choosing our battles more carefully because we need to minimize bloodshed after a decade of war.

I believe Obama won the military audience when he said:

“There’s no reason why Americans should die when Afghans are perfectly capable of defending their country,” Obama said. “After a decade of war, it’s time to do some nation-building at home.”

Face it, folks.  Our military members, their families are tired of constantly being deployed.

It is time to focus on Homeland issues, and Romney is on the record for wanting to increase the Defense War budget by $2.1 trillion dollars even though our military didn’t ask for it.  It’s one thing for our military to ask for an increase — but they didn’t ask for it to begin with.

Sound familiar?

It sounds like Romney is appeasing special interest groups that benefit from war — and that is the bottom line.

I believe we ought to choose our battles more carefully, and give our military a rest to a degree.  When our troops are rested, and when their morale is strengthened….they become better focused fighters anyway, in fact, I’ll go so far to say that I would like to see a United States President appoint some women to the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

I leave you with this interesting BBC poll where the international community favors Obama over Mitt Romney.

BBC poll: Rest of world favours Obama

A BBC World Service opinion poll has found sharply higher overseas approval ratings for US President Barack Obama than Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

An average of 50% favoured Mr Obama, with 9% for Mr Romney, in the survey of 21,797 people in 21 countries.

Mitt Romney has a military problem. Now he is Falsely Claiming Pentagon Cuts Will Impact Veterans

Monday, October 15th, 2012

Mitt Romney has a military problem.  He appears to be clueless on matters relating to foreign policy.  More importantly, how can he handle economic budgets when he can’t get the Veteran Affairs budget facts straight?

Now he is Falsely Claiming Pentagon Cuts Will Impact Veterans, and as a Gulf War I veteran … I take issue with Romney’s populist lying in order to get ahead. Besides, I have news for Mitt Romney:  Americans are tired of blowing a good chunk of our money on wars and Romney wants to increase our war budget during a slower economy.  We need to invest war dollars right here in our Homeland.  We are tired of wasting our tax payer dollars on bombs and rebuilding countries we bomb.

Enough is enough with war and we need to slow it down.

Romney Falsely Claims Pentagon Cuts Will Impact Veterans

By Adam Peck on Sep 27, 2012 at 5:39 pm

In a speech to the American Legion today, Mitt Romney leveled fresh criticism against President Obama, accusing his administration of cutting the benefits of veterans who are returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and going so far as to call plans to cut the Veterans Affairs Department budget a “crisis.”:

Romney charged that the defense budget cuts would affect services for veterans, including the men and women returning from conflict overseas who need psychological counseling. Romney invoked the rising number of suicides – “This is a crisis,” he declared – as he sharpened his attack on the Obama administration’s proposed spending cuts.

But Romney’s claim — that veterans’ care will be negatively impacted by sequestration — is not grounded in reality. Earlier this month, the White House announced that virtually all of the Veterans Affairs Department budget will be exempt from mandatory cuts if and when sequestration goes into effect in January 2013. The only exception, according to VA Secretary Eric Shinseki, would be possible cuts to administrative costs. That means health care, vocational, and education services will remain fully funded while cuts are made elsewhere within the Department of Defense, despite Mitt Romney’s claims to the contrary.

Of course, if Romney were actually concerned about the possibility of losing funding for the Veterans Affairs Department, he probably wouldn’t have embraced Paul Ryan or his budget, which could lead to reductions in veterans’ benefits.

VOTEVETS.ORG: Tell Romney to stop restricting voting rights for over 900,000 Ohio veterans

Monday, October 8th, 2012

I’m an independent registered voter and a veteran of the US Armed Forces and served under President George Bush Sr., and President Clinton. I do not support Mitt Romney because he dodged the draft. I encourage you to support Ohio Veterans who have a legitimate complaint against Mitt Romney.

Mitt Romney is trying to restrict voting rights for over 900,000 Ohio veterans (along with every other Ohioan). We need to fight back, to protect our democracy against this horrific move.

Governor Romney,

We will not stand for your latest attempt to restrict voting rights for over 900,000 Ohio veterans. By supporting the Ohio law that shortens the early voting period, you are restricting the ability to vote of those who wore the uniform, and swore their lives to uphold our Constitution, including the right to vote.

The law you have come out in support of would restrict the incredibly successful early-voting program in the state, and specifically do away with voting the weekend before election day, when many working Ohioans chose to vote early. For veterans, many of whom have jobs they cannot leave during a weekday, weekend voting has proved crucial. In 2008, almost a third of Ohio voters used the early voting program, including veterans.

We’ve already seen what a non-early-voting Ohio looks like. We saw it in 2004, when in many polling places had extremely long lines, and polling places were shut down before everyone in line had a chance to vote. Non-early voting, quite literally, resulted in the disenfranchisement of voters, including veterans.

That you want to go back to those days is disgusting and wrong. If you truly want to show you are ready to be Commander in Chief, you can start by not trying to hurt the ability of veterans to vote.

Sincerely,
