As a Holistic Nutritionist, I hear on a regular basis that fruits and vegetable are hard to integrate into your diet. The FDA requires that between 9 and 13 servings of vegetables. I am on a 100% plant based diet, and often times I have a hard time reaching this amount. Fruits and vegetable and crucial in the maintenance of your immune system. Fruits and vegetables contain thousands of phytonutrients that are imperative in healing illness from a cellular level.
Once you start making eating fruits and vegetables a top priority, the benefits will start becoming apparent. Some benefits, just to name a few are assisting with preventing heart disease by increasing circulation and lowering cholesterol. There are numerous studies out there that have proven that higher amounts of nutrients from fruits and vegetables will help in preventing cancer. The high amount of antioxidants in fruits and vegetable help to reduce free radicals that cause cancer.
Electrons typically come in twos, if there’s not an antioxidant to give the electron a mate, and it robs from the cell. This changes the outside coat of the cell from a soft surface that can be penetrated to one that’s hard. When the cell membrane changes, it then makes it hard for waste to get out. The cell and the DNA to reproduce it, dies. If too many cells die, you will then start to develop illness. The antioxidants in fruits and vegetables help prevent the changes.
Fruits and vegetables do not contain artificial sugar and are packed with high amounts minerals and other nutrients and vitamins that may help with low energy levels. Most of us try to find energy from foods or drinks that are high in sugar, caffeine that result in a sugar-crash. This is normally because they elevate sugar levels quickly and burn off quickly. Fruit and vegetables provide a more enduring energy level.
Most fruits and veggies are tpically high in fiber and can contribute to weight loss. High-fiber foods help people feel fuller than foods without fiber or foods high in sugar. If fruits or vegetables are the larger part of a meal, it will prevent from overeating on more unhealthy items.
