Cheating Scandal in Atlanta Schools Leads to 35 Indictments

Rumors have circulated for years about school-administrator-driven cheating on standardized tests. Abrupt improvements in student scores, sometimes followed by abrupt drops in the scores when security is improved, has rightly raised suspicions.
Now, in an Atlanta school district with 52,000 children, many of them poor, the scandal has broken wide open. On March 29, the New York Times reported:
