ICYMI, on Tax Day, Heritage provided a useful chart showing federal spending, by percent, laid out on an image of a dollar bill. As it happens, we at Western Free Press did the same thing last year. Below are the two charts. Notice how entitlement spending is going up (this time, Social Security)? Note that eventually, entitlement spending will crowd out all other spending, consuming all revenue.

Disappointing 2.5 percent growth falls short
Add disappointing growth in the nation’s economy in the first three months of the year to stubborn unemployment to get the real picture of the failing Obama economy.
The government reported Friday that the economy grew by 2.5 percent in the first quarter, up from a dismal 0.4 percent at the end of last year. Yet a look at the details of the report shows a still fragile economy without much hope of progress for the rest of the year.
The Wall Street J...

The Taxman Never Gets Enough
Support for imposing sales taxes on Internet shopping in the United States Senate is only more proof that lawmakers at every level of government are desperate to fund runaway spending.
The Senate voted 74 to 20 Monday to consider a bill that would require online retailers to collect state and local sales taxes. The law now says states can only require retailers to collect sales taxes if the retailer has a physical presence in the state.
As usual, the issue is framed ...

“Hamel: No more taxes, Mr. President”
Public Notice Executive Director Gretchen Hamel editorializes in The Richmond Times Dispatch, “In business, you have to compete. The only way to attract new jobs and create economic growth is by cultivating a better environment for businesses to thrive. Virginians understand this, and so do their neighbors. North Carolina is considering legislation to drop its corporate tax rate to 4.9 percent, which would be the lowest...

Broken Record: Beggar’s Banquet
RECORD REVENUES: Federal Gov’t Projected To Collect Most Revenue In History In 2013: “The federal government is projected to collect more revenue in 2013 than ever before, a statistic Republicans are touting to make the case that the government has a spending problem, not a taxing one. … Both the CBO and the White House estimate the government will collect around $2.7 trillion in 2013, up from around $2.45 trillion last year.” (Bernie Becker, “Fed’s...

Pray For Boston
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, families and friends of all those who were impacted by the bombings at the Boston Marathon. The American spirit is evident in the acts of courage and heroism by first responders, emergency personnel, police and fire department officials and the thousands of selfless individuals who helped rescue the injured and bring them to safety. Public Notice will be using its social media networks today to dir...

Baucus on Dem Budget: “$1 Trillion in tax increases is too much”
Roll Call reports, “A defiant stand by Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus against his party’s budget blueprint has raised new questions about the Democrats’ agenda for tax overhaul and deficit reduction. The Montana lawmaker was one of four Democrats who voted against the fiscal 2014 budget resolution (S Con Res 8) adopted on a 50-49 vote in the early morning hours of March 23. His vote...
