Local Food Markets Support Food, Inc. Movie at Loft Cinema

by on Jul. 14, 2009, under A Tisket, A Tasket, Arts, Health

Join Food Conspiracy Co-op, the Community Food Resource Center (of the Community Food Bank) and the Loft Cinema for an opening night celebration of Food, Inc. on Friday, July 17.

The movie, Food Inc., is being touted as one of the most talked about new films about the state of our food system. If you have seen the movie trailer, it’s rather sickening.

The opening night event will include an opportunity to meet local farmers and ranchers, informational exhibits from local food advocates including the Food Conspiracy Co-op, the Community Food Bank and Sustainable Tucson, and a special presentation on local food options in Tucson before the start of the film.

Here’s the schedule for the evening:

6 – 7 p.m. – Local food organizations and farmers available with local food resources and information
7 – 7:30 p.m. – Introduction of Community Food Bank short film Local Foods, Healthy Communities, raffle and recognition of local farmers
7:30 – 9 p.m. – Showing of Food, Inc.
9 – 10 p.m. – Local food organizations available with local food resources and information

This film will most likely sell out, arrive early to ensure a seat.

The Loft Cinema is located at 3233 E Speedway Blvd.

On another note but it’s all tied in, today the Obama administration announced a hearing on restricting antibiotics dosed to livestock . This is all part of the growing demand to eat local, communicate with the farmer, eat healthier, and know where our food supply comes from.

Thanks for your comment. I was thinking of volunteering when I have more time.
I’m also a Loft member and really like to see the community coming together to support a good cause or distribute information.
That is what continues to make Tucson special.

Thanks Karyn for this information about “Food, Inc.” to be showing this week at the Loft. I volunteer there as well and it’s a wonderful theater for independent movies such as this one.  I’ve seen the trailer too!
