Tucson CSA share - go greens!

I’m thoroughly enjoying my Tucson Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). I’m enjoying it so much that I signed on for the third quarter.

I’ve written about it before.

The spring quarter is now accepting applications from new members so think of the spring harvest and what could be on your plate.

Last week I received citrus, fennel, dill, mustard greens, Tokyo Bekana (a type of green which I haven’t tried yet), spring lettuce mix, indigenous green onions, carrots, and I forget what else.

I have been sauteeing the mustard greens with some garlic and olive oil and then adding them to grains brown rice or quinoa for a light healthy meal. I’ve also added greens into soups and pasta sauce. I roasted the carrots with olive oil, cumin, and ginger. Wow! Yum! Rachel Ray, move over!

I feel veggie empowered.

Check out the Tucson CSA to see if you want to sign up for spring.  I pick up my share every other week. Maybe I’ll bump into you and we can compare recipes?

    Thanks for the encouragement Karyn!
I don’t know why it intimidates me so much…my Dad always had a little garden when we were growing up, so now that he is retired he could probably help me and give me some advice. I was widowed very young (40) and am now 46 and I’ve worked, saved and invested so that I could retire fairly early, even with unexpectadly being widowed and left with three kids to support on my own. (major downsizing, smaller house, older car with no car payments, etc.)

Now I only have one child left living with me and he’ll be a senior in high school next year, so I see freedom soon! LOL

I have an area on the east side of my house in the backyard that gets morning sun then shade most of the day…I thought that area might be good for a garden? It’s just grass now and when I got this house after my husband passed, I immediately thought it might be a great veggie garden area.

Okay…I’m starting to feel inspired. Isn’t it weird sometimes the things we let intimidate us? For years I was intimidated by yeast, of all things. I love to cook and bake, but yeast breads or rolls…forget it! HA!

From your photo you look like you have a long way to retire. Why not start now with one type of veggie? The Tucson Organic Gardeners event is in November. I’ll post about it as it gets nearer. Maybe with a little info you can not be afraid and start small.

    YUM!!

One of the things I want to do when I retire is have a glorious veggie garden, and I’m scared to death that I’ll fail at it.
I can grow beautiful roses, but I’m terrified of trying to grow food….I’m not a vegetarian, but just prefer veggies and fruit over any other foods.
