Tucson, Ariz. -Is Jesse Kelly the pro-salmonella candidate? Food safety at riskby Karyn Zoldan on Oct. 27, 2010, under A Tisket, A Tasket, Food Personalities, Food Recalls, Health
Is Jesse Kelly the pro-salmonella candidate?
Salmonella, E.coli, Listeria monocytogenes – these scientific sounding words are now part of our regular vocabulary because of the numerous food recalls during these past few years.
Not a week goes by where the FDA doesn’t distribute some kind of press release although I don’t worry too much about dried fish eggs or truffle puree.
In recent years the major food recalls have been peanut butter, eggs, spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, chile peppers, baby formula, dog food, and mega million pounds of ground beef. A major food recall can cripple a state’s economics.
You may recall that America’s staple of peanut butter was made in a disgustingly filthy plant in Georgia and Texas. Upscale stores to bargain basements proudly put their label on it. People died. The elderly, children, and people with compromised immune systems suffer more from food poisoning than the rest of us who might only have some bloody diarrhea and nausea or minor flu-like symptoms.
Raise your hand if you like manure with your eggs! According to the latest Iowa egg recall, at the Quality (sic) Egg LLC, chicken manure was piled up to 8-feet high and the outside doors were being pushed open by the weight of the manure plus a whole lot more of disgusting attributes (dead maggots ) that should never been seen anywhere food is on the menu.
But I digress.
Some entity has to be responsible for food safety. They may not be doing a great job but the American eating public needs food safety to be a top priority.
According to Jesse Kelly, he wants less regulation on food safety. He says you, you, and you have to be responsible for your own food safety. Does Southwest Airlines have super saver flights to Iowa?
