Living the Thin Life: First Find Your “Happy” Weight

It’s the weight that makes your heart sing when you step on the scale in the morning. Go above, and you’re not as happy. Go below, and maybe you are a little happier – because then you can go to Golden Corral that day and eat a few more calories!
I first found my happy weight by deciding it on a height & weight chart, and decided that I could weigh 100 pounds for the first five feet, then 5 more pounds for each inch after that. Pretty basic. This doesn’t take into account small, medium or large bone frames, so you may want to try a height/weight chart like this. At 5′ 7″, medium frame, age 48, this chart says I can weigh between 133-147 pounds; I like about 137 pounds.
Finding your body mass index (BMI) is fun, too. Here’s an inexpensive BMI scale you can purchase, or, click here to take a simple test to find your BMI. Like the height/weight chart, I am in the low-to-mid range, at 21.5 BMI for my height and weight. This chart also has a much more liberal weight range, saying I can weigh between 118-159.
You are the only one who can figure out what your happy weight is. Not the lady at Weight Watchers, or the counselor at Jenny Craig. Just you.
