Living Thin; Yo-Yo Dieting- Stop the insanity!

No more Yo-Yo Dieting!

No more Yo-Yo dieting!

After going up and down the scale since the age of eleven, I finally stopped in 2001 after a 50-pound weight loss, and started living the thin lifestyle.  I would highly recommend it as a saner way of life.

Just exactly how many diets have I been on?  Here’s a list of the diets that come to mind:

Official plans: Weight Watchers (at least 15 times), Metabolic Weight Loss Center, Atkins, South Beach Diet, Diet Center, Weigh Down WorkshopJenny Craig, Overeaters Anonymous, First Fitness, and Dexatrim diet pills.

Unofficial diet plans:  Cabbage soup diet, liquid diets, hypnosis, calorie counting, carb counting, fat gram counting and meditation.  One day I even tried being bulimia, but that will be another blog.

What’s great about stopping yo-yo dieting?

Nothing tastes as good as thin feels!

1) I know all the clothes in my closet are going to fit me every day — even my skinny jeans.

2) All the clothes in my closet are the same size (no more ranges).

3)  My cholesterol is fantastic, due to my diet and weight.  My blood pressure is 108/62; the health benefits are fabulous.

4)  I fit nicely in an airplane seat, movie seat, restaurant booth, etc.

5)  I like the way I look in the mirror — front and back.

6)  Buying clothes is fun.  I buy clothes I like, not just clothes that happen to fit.

7)  I don’t have to investigate the next diet, thinking “this diet will work, since the last one didn’t.”

8)  I no longer finance the diet industry.

It’s nice to not wake up in the morning with a sense of dread, wishing I hadn’t overeaten the night before, or wondering just exactly how many pounds I had gained back since ending my last diet.

Watch the scale every day to monitor small weight gains

Now I step on the scale every morning.  This way, I can nip a small weight gain in the bud.  It is probably the single, most sane thing I do to manage my weight.  And it’s easy.

Whew!

What a relief to be off yo-yo dieting!

Diets are basically designed to fail proven by how many times you have been on some and the countless diets that you’ve tried in the past.   We have to change our lifestyle and habits permanently in order to lose weight, keep it off and remain healthy.I have the pleasure of working with Dr. Brian Wansink, Director of the Food and Brand Lab at Cornell University and a world expert in eating behaviors. Wansink says, “The best diet is the one you don’t know you’re on.” The only way to achieve this success is by changing our environment turning bad eating habits into good eating habits. He studied eating behaviors through fun experiments observing people while eating and describes his findings in the book, “Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think.” It is a fun book and full of useful information of why, when, how, and where we eat.Dr. Wansink also led the team for the 2010 US Food Pyramid after receiving a Presidential Invite to Washington. Most recently, Dr. Wansink has done some experiments in school cafeterias. Read the article http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10164/1065009-84.stmThe book was a catalyst for http://www.mindlessproducts.com where you can find his “Thinware” which are dish sets proven to make people eat less because of shape, design, size and color. The book was also the catalyst for The Mindless Method, http://www.mindlessmethod.com. The only weight loss plan (NOT A DIET) endorsed by Dr. Wansink and based on all his 20+ years of research. Check them out. You will be most interested.

“Diet” is a four letter word. Your body gears up for starvation. Change one item at a time until it’s habit. If it doesn’t work, try another change until you get it right. It’s slow, steady progress that works.
I notice that several celebrities have recently lost significant weight. I hope they serve a role models.  Drew Carey said he was just tired of being fat. Good for him!!!
