Thermic Vegetables; Burn Calories While You Eat – Check Out This List!by Sonja Rose on Aug. 12, 2010, under Health
Thermic vegetables burn more calories than they contain — what could be better than that?!
Friendly foods, designed to burn calories and make our bodies happy – not fat. They could be used to drop a few pounds, or be eaten as a snacks and never feel guilty (the more you eat, the more calories you burn — it’s a beautiful thing!).
For example: A cup of green beans contains about 20 calories, but takes 30 calories to digest; therefore, ahead in the calorie-counting game.
These vegetables are a gift. No, they are magic!
Sometimes referred to as “free” vegetables, or “negative calorie” vegetables — why? Because you can eat as many of them as you want, and don’t even have to count calories. If you’re on a diet, and starving, grab a thermic vegetable — it’s never going to be the thing that will make you gain weight. These foods are your friends.
* Asparagus * Bamboo Shoots * Bean Sprouts* Beets * Broccoli * Cabbage* Cauliflower * Celery* Chinese Cabbage * Eggplant * Green Beans * Mushrooms * Okra * Onions * Peppers * Pumpkin * Sauerkraut * Snow Peas * Spinach * Squash * Turnips * Water Chestnuts * Wax Beans * Zucchini
Just imagine making a big salad containing several of these vegetables, or how about a soup? It would be easy, and tasty as well.
As part of my weight maintenance program, I eat a salad every day for lunch, chock full of vegetables. Also, when I go to buffets (like Golden Corral, my favorite), half my meal consists of salad — and many of my choices are thermic vegetables.
