I was an AARP member for about 8 years. I disagreed with almost everything they sent in the magazine, including insurance methods. Then they advertised at Walgreens store speakers for people to get it FREE for one year, that really annoyed me, and I could also see how totally useless it always was, and discontinued it completely.

I do sell the AARP Medicare Supplement. I have heard that people signing up for the supplements now get calls from UnitedHealthcare (the actual insurance company) to confirm that people have cancelled their Medicare Advantage plan. If a person wants to leave their Medicare Advantage plan and go back to Medicare, they should enroll in a "stand-alone" Part D plan and this enrollment will disenroll them from the Medicare Advantage plan. This is because Medicare has this information in each person's record. When the Part D enrollment goes into a person's record, the Medicare Advantage plan is booted from the person's record.
