The problem with so many insurance policies is the small print. Or.. people don't realize the risk they are taking when they pick limited coverage, or high deductibles. Health insurance is so confusing...and yet so important.

This happened to me. I had my own private insurance (First Health) and it turned out I had a $100,000 lifetime limit for cancer coverage. I was very healthy years before, when I purchased the insurance. I didn't give that part of the contract much thought. When I was diagnosed and treated for cancer in 2007, my bills hit $100,000 within 5 months. My total treatment ended up costing over $400,000. If I was going to receive life saving treatment I had to go on AHCCCS and then Medicare.
Requiring insurance companies to stop capping coverage saves taxpayers money, saves AHCCCS and Medicare money. This is how the Affordable Care Act saves everyone money.
