Foster care review volunteers sought

by on Apr. 15, 2006, under Family, Local

Volunteers are being sought for the state’s Foster Care Review Board in Pima County.

The volunteers serve under the supervision of the Arizona Supreme Court and review the cases of children in the state’s foster care system who live in Pima County.

About 2,300 children are in foster care here, according to the court’s outreach specialist, Jonni Wolfe.

The board was established in 1978 by the Arizona Legislature in response to concerns that children remained in foster care placements too long. Legislators wanted more effort to be made to find permanent homes for children.

Volunteers meet monthly for six to eight hours on a weekday to review the cases of children who are in foster care.

Those who volunteer must be able to spend four to six hours of their own time reviewing case documents before the monthly meeting. Mileage and “subsistence” costs are reimbursable by the state.
