Arizona fetes five area schools for innovative teaching

● Flowing Wells High School received special recognition for being named an A+ School for the third time.
● Richard B. Wilson Middle School in Amphitheater Public Schools was recognized for its consistently high scores on Arizona’s Instrument to Measure Standards.
● Catalina High Magnet School in the Tucson Unified School District received the Career and Technical Education Partnership Award for its partnership with Tucson Medical Center and Radiology Ltd. as part of the school’s Allied Health Program.
● Marana High School in the Marana Unified School District received the High School Renewal Smaller Learning Community Award for creating six “academies” that combine technical education, such as medical science and human anatomy, with core curriculum classes such as medical English.
The idea is to provide students with an opportunity to explore different career paths while in high school and bring real-world applications to the classroom.
● Also recognized for high school reform was City High School, a charter school that emphasizes small enrollment and small class sizes. The students there regularly take field trips to enhance their classroom education.
The awards were part of the second annual Spotlight On Success dinner at the Sheraton Tucson Hotel & Suites.
