Ajo Highway near Ryan Airfield was closed for 2 hours Tuesday evening as U.S. Border Patrol agents searched for two suspects.

The road was reopened at around 10 p.m.

Public Affairs Officer Jesus Rodriguez said at about 7:45 p.m., an agent pulled over a truck and two individuals got out of the truck.

At that time, Rodriguez said the agent told the dispatcher there were “shots fired.” Rodriguez said he doesn’t know yet if the agent fired or if the two people fired at the agent. No-one was injured and the two people fled.

Agents are looking for the two individuals and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department closed the road during a search. Rodriguez said narcotics were found inside the truck.
