Storm warnings issued
by David L. Teibel on Jun. 07, 2006, under SpecialA severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for the Tucson metro area as a storm capable of dumping nickel-sized hail and with wind possibly gusting to more than 60 miles per hour moves this afternoon across the Southeast side toward Rita Ranch.
The 2 p.m. storm warning, meaning thunderstorms are imminent, was issued by the National Weather Service here on top of a severe thunder storm watch issued minutes earlier for all Southeast Arizona.
The storm warning is set to expire at 2:30 p.m. The storm watch, meaning severe storms are likely, is set to expire at 8 p.m.
The Tucson area may experience damaging winds, dust storms and possibly rain, said Eric Pytlak, a meteorologist with the weather service here.
He said heavy rain is not expected in any one area because the storm is a fast-movinig one at 20 mph.
