Man shot outside home by deputy; woman found dead inside

Sheriff’s detectives today are continuing an investigation into the death of a woman and the shooting by deputies of an armed man at the scene.

Sheriff’s radio dispatchers got a call at 6 p.m. Sunday from a man who said he had just killed someone in his home in the 500 block of West Ocotillo Place in Green Valley and that he would shoot the first deputy he saw, said Deputy Dawn Barkman, a sheriff’s spokeswoman.

When deputies arrived they surrounded the house, evacuated neighboring homes and called for the man inside to come out, Barkman said, adding he did not.

SWAT deputies were sent to the home and as they were taking over from patrol deputies, a man came out of the home, pointed a weapon at deputies and at least one deputy fired, wounding the man, Barkman said.

The wounded man was taken to a hospital, Barkman said. His condition this morning had not been released.

Deputies went into the home and found an elderly woman dead, Barkman said.

Further details were not immediately available early today.

Citizen Online Archive, 2006-2009

This archive contains all the stories that appeared on the Tucson Citizen's website from mid-2006 to June 1, 2009.

In 2010, a power surge fried a server that contained all of videos linked to dozens of stories in this archive. Also, a server that contained all of the databases for dozens of stories was accidentally erased, so all of those links are broken as well. However, all of the text and photos that accompanied some stories have been preserved.

For all of the stories that were archived by the Tucson Citizen newspaper's library in a digital archive between 1993 and 2009, go to Morgue Part 2
