Sidewinders hit sinkhole on road, lose 16-1 to Fresno

The Tucson Sidewinders can’t get home soon enough.

On Day 6 of the team’s 12-day, 14-game road trip, the Sidewinders were stunned by an offensive onslaught in a 16-1 loss to the Fresno Grizzlies.

Tucson starting pitcher Evan MacLane (6-7) took the loss after allowing nine earned runs, 11 hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings. Reliever Dustin Glant didn’t fare much better, allowing seven runs – three earned – in 2 1/2 innings.

Fresno scored all 16 runs in the first six innings, including four home runs. Two were solo shots, and two were three-run homers.

Tucson managed 10 hits, but only scored on a second-inning solo home run by Jamie D’Antona.

Grizzlies first baseman Scott McClain went went 3 for 4 with two doubles, a three-run home run and five RBIs. He has hit seven homers in his past eight games.

The Sidewinders (51-46) play two more games at Fresno, then start a four-game series at Portland before their eight-game homestand begins July 24.

Citizen Online Archive, 2006-2009

This archive contains all the stories that appeared on the Tucson Citizen's website from mid-2006 to June 1, 2009.

In 2010, a power surge fried a server that contained all of videos linked to dozens of stories in this archive. Also, a server that contained all of the databases for dozens of stories was accidentally erased, so all of those links are broken as well. However, all of the text and photos that accompanied some stories have been preserved.

For all of the stories that were archived by the Tucson Citizen newspaper's library in a digital archive between 1993 and 2009, go to Morgue Part 2
