It’s not certain when the next Lute Olson Classic will be played, but if the pattern of every two years continues, it will be in 2009.

And maybe then it will be part of a weekend when UA officially retires the jersey of former All-American Jason Terry.

When the subject was brought up Sunday at the 2007 Classic, Terry smiled.

“Sooner than later,” he said, not offering a time frame. “It means don’t be shocked if it happens in the near future.”

Terry said it would be nice for it to happen. He had a huge season in 1998-99, when he was named college basketball’s player of the yearby CBS, Sports Illustrated and Basketball Times. He was UA’s sixth man in the 1997 championship season.

“It would be nice,” said Terry, who plays for the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks. “Can’t say that I don’t think about it. It will happen in time. I’m very optimistic.”

Terry said that if the question of having his jersey retired had been asked before he made the weekend trip, he may have had a different answer, but “in talking with (coach) Lute (Olson) and (athletic director) Jim (Livengood), it’s very possible.”

Where next?
Former UA player Hassan Adams is without a team or a job after being released by the New Jersey Nets in July.

Adams said he’s doing fine and may soon find out whether he’ll be in a camp come October. He said news could come in the next couple of weeks, adding that San Antonio is a possibility.
