When the arrived they found the child dead and detectives were called, Pacheco said.

He said detectives learned that the infant was in Alvarez’s care while the boy’s mother was at work.

When she returned home she found here son unresponsive and called 911, Pacheco said.

After an investigation Alvarez was arrested, Pacheco said.

Pacheco said an autopsy was done Sunday, but results were not available. He could not say how the baby was killed or why.

He said Alvarez and the child’s mother had been together for four months and police had no record of domestic violence involving the couple.

The homicide is the third this year and the first child death case, Pacheco said.

Citizen Online Archive, 2006-2009

This archive contains all the stories that appeared on the Tucson Citizen's website from mid-2006 to June 1, 2009.

In 2010, a power surge fried a server that contained all of videos linked to dozens of stories in this archive. Also, a server that contained all of the databases for dozens of stories was accidentally erased, so all of those links are broken as well. However, all of the text and photos that accompanied some stories have been preserved.
