Number of Az independent voters falls

by on Jan. 22, 2008, under Elections, Local, Nation/World

The number of independent voters and those declaring no party has decreased in Arizona since October.

Presumably, that drop represents voters switching to Democrat or Republican in anticipation of the Feb. 5 presidential primary.

The percentage of registered Democrats has climbedfrom 33 percent in October to 33.3 percent and Republicans’ registration has increased from 38.2 percent to 38.4 percent.

Independent and unaffiliated voters now represent 27.8 percent of voters, down from 28.1 percent in October.

There are 2,713,070 registered voters in Arizona, according to the Secretary of State’s Office.
