FLAMENCO Y MAS: Olivia Rojo, founder of this showcase flamenco company, brings a new lineup of dancers, singers and musicians into the spotlight this weekend with “¡Vamo ya!” Featured dancers include Melissa Aguirre, Jon Banuelos, Andres Lemons, Jason Martinez, Mele Martinez, Angelina Ramirez and Esther Sanchez-Gomez, plus special guests Vicente Griego, singer, and Ricardo Anglada, guitar. Flamenco y mas is a Tucson-based company dedicated to the passion, spirit and legacy of the Spanish Gypsies. Performances will vary from night to night, in the tradition of Spain’s flamenco cafés. “THE TRUE STORY OF CINDERELLA” – A COMIC ORATORIO: Presented by the University of Arizona’s School of Music, this humorous retelling of the classic fairy tale is offered in an unstaged version by 12 singers, a narrator and a pianist.This version features the familiar characters of the prince, the fairy godmother, Cinderella, her stepmother and sisters, as well as the prince’s parents, three odd hermits who give the prince advice, and a herald. Each character is featured in a short solo as well as various duets and trios in a wide range of comic styles. The work concludes with an ensemble finale, and a variety of curious couplings. 35TH ANNUAL PRESIDENT’S CONCERT: This concert features the best talents of the University of Arizona School of Music in a wide variety of works.
