Statehood Day celebrated at Capitol

Arizona became the 48th state on Feb. 14, 1912.
State Chief Justice Ruth McGregor will kick off the day’s events by leading the Pledge of Allegiance at 12:30 p.m. in the historic Senate chamber of the old Capitol.
Gov. Janet Napolitano will deliver a statehood proclamation, with presentations to follow by Senate President Tim Bee and House Speaker Jim Weiers.
The Arizona Capitol Museum, inside the historic Capitol, opens its newest exhibit, “Up from the ashes: Phoenix goes to Mars.”
