CHICAGO WHITE SOX
by Tucson Citizen on Mar. 17, 2008, under SportsMonday: White Sox vs. Brewers (ss), 1:05 p.m., Maryvale
Sunday: Diamondbacks 6, White Sox 5
Batting recap: Jermaine Dye hit a homer off Arizona’s Dan Haren, his third of the spring.
Chicago scored two unearned runs in the fifth on errors.
Pitching recap: White Sox starter Gavin Floyd, the fourth overall pick in the 2001 draft, allowed five runs – four earned – and five hits in four innings, striking out three and walking three. He threw two wild pitches.
Notable: The game was delayed 22 minutes by rain that still was coming down when Arizona’s Dan Haren threw his first pitch.
The White Sox wore bright green caps in anticipation of St. Patrick’s Day.
Quotable: “They were putting the tarp on, putting it off, putting it on,” Floyd said. “It didn’t look like the mountains were showing out there, so it didn’t look like we were going to get the game in.”
