A 21-year-old man died Monday after rolling his car on Gates Pass Road, a Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman said.

The man, whose name was withheld until family could be notified of his death, was speeding at the time of the accident, Deputy Nicole Feldt said.

Alcohol might also be a factor in the wreck, she said.

The man was driving a Chevy Malibu west on Gates Pass Road when he veered off just west of the eastern entrance to Tucson Mountain Park, Feldt said.

He overcorrected, the car rolled and he was partly ejected, she said. The crash occurred about 5:30 p.m., she said.

The driver was taken by air ambulance to University Medical Center where he died shortly after arriving, she said.

Citizen Online Archive, 2006-2009

This archive contains all the stories that appeared on the Tucson Citizen's website from mid-2006 to June 1, 2009.

In 2010, a power surge fried a server that contained all of videos linked to dozens of stories in this archive. Also, a server that contained all of the databases for dozens of stories was accidentally erased, so all of those links are broken as well. However, all of the text and photos that accompanied some stories have been preserved.

For all of the stories that were archived by the Tucson Citizen newspaper's library in a digital archive between 1993 and 2009, go to Morgue Part 2
