Tucson Water adding meetings on new conservation proposals
by Garry Duffy on Apr. 23, 2008, under LocalTucson Water has added more public meetings on potential new water conservation policies that the City Council will consider next month.
Under the plan, all of Tucson Water’s conservation efforts would be funded by a charge of 3 cents per 100 cubic feet of water used.
The revenues would help fund existing conservation efforts, such as the Zanjero program, and the 22 new measures focused mainly on toilet improvements and landscape management.
The policies could include rebates for households that replace old toilets with low-flow ones or install gray water harvesting systems.
Code changes could require that plumbing changes be made when properties are sold. Another possible new policy would investigate potential water-saving programs such as hot water recirculation systems.
