Peter & Paul, Sahuarita schools win Jr. Duel event

Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School and Sahuarita High School were the winners of the third annual Jr. Duel in the Desert on April 26.

Students competed for cash prizes in the youth personal finance case study competition.

In preparation for the competition, students were taught about budgeting, credit, saving, insurance, investing and careers.

The event was hosted by Hughes Financial Credit Union and the University of Arizona Students in Free Enterprise in an effort to give young students the skills to be financially responsible. . The winners were:

• First place – Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School, 1436 N. Campbell Ave., $500.

Sahuarita High School, 350 W. Sahuarita Road, $500.

• Second place – Alice Vail, 5350 E. 16th St., $300.

Sunnyside High School Team B, 2238 E. Ginter Road, $300.

• Third place – Wildcat School, 5660 S. 12th Ave., $200.

Sunnyside High School Team A, 2238 E. Ginter Road, $200.

• Fourth place – Wakefield, 101 W. 44th St., $100.

Pueblo High School, 3500 S. 12th Ave., $100.

• Participation – Quincie Douglas Library, 1585 E. 36th St., $100.
