Life has been good for former Arizona star guard Jerryd Bayless, who three months ago declared for the NBA and is projected to be a top-five pick.
Wednesday, Bayless spent time on FSN’s “Best Damn Sports Show” in Los Angeles, chatting with the hosts and former NBA players John Salley and Gary Payton.
Many mock drafts have Bayless going to Payton’s longtime team, Seattle. Bayless said he keeps in contact with Sonics player Kevin Durant.
“We just talked about the opportunity of us playing together,” Bayless said. “I have known Kevin since my freshman year of high school. We just talked about playing together and what kind of combo that could be if that did happen.”
Payton asked Bayless about his potential impact on the league.
“If I am put in the right situation, I think I can do some things,” Bayless said. “I think the main thing for me is to get into the right situation and a coach that maybe runs a couple things for me.”
Bayless said he and Arizona head coach Lute Olson have not spoken since the NBA process started, “(but) we were pretty close before that, so I am sure I will talk to him in the coming weeks.”
He said his one season at UA was difficult, as he’s said for some time, because, “I signed up to go there to play for coach Olson and obviously he had his personal problems and what not and had to take his leave.
“I went into one thing and got a whole other thing, but I think everything worked out for the best.
“I am still in a pretty good situation . . . so I can’t complain too much.”
