Santa Rita hoops star has college offers

Santa Rita's Terrell Stoglin moves the ball up court against Chandler during a game at McKale Center earlier this month.
The mercury isn’t the only thing on the rise in Tucson.
So, too, is the recruiting stock of Santa Rita High School junior-to-be Terrell Stoglin, who participated last weekend in the Nike Hoops Jamboree, an exclusive invitation-only camp in St. Louis featuring the country’s top 120 underclassmen.
Stoglin, who performed well at the two-day event, has three college scholarship offers and a host of other top-tier programs expressing strong interest.
The 6-foot point guard led the Eagles to back-to-back Class 4A Division II state championship games. He averaged 22 points and six rebounds per game last season.
“I have offers from Penn State, San Diego and Northern Arizona (University) now,” Stoglin said. “And USC and Maryland say they’ll offer in July.”
The potential offers from Southern California and Maryland will have plenty to do with Stoglin’s performance in multiple AAU basketball tournaments in July. Stoglin lists his “top four” potential colleges as USC, Memphis, Maryland and San Diego, in no particular order.
Missing from his target list is the University of Arizona. Former UA assistant Josh Pastner, now at Memphis, was the lead recruiter of Stoglin.
“Josh was my guy,” Stoglin said. “He and I have a great relationship. (UA) isn’t out of the picture or anything, but the guys who were doing all the recruiting of me aren’t there anymore, so for right now, that’s changed, but anything can happen.”
Stoglin joined the newly formed Arizona Pump-N-Run team with, among others, UA recruiting target Matt Carlino (Gilbert Highland High).
Stoglin is the only Tucson player on the team, which has yet to practice. Stoglin said he was told the team will be coached by former UA assistant Miles Simon.
