Committees on Houghton widening, transit created
by Carli Brosseau on Jul. 09, 2008, under LocalThe City Council on Tuesday created two oversight committees related to transportation issues.
The council voted unanimously to create a citizens’ advisory committee to discuss the details of the $81 million Regional Transportation Authority project to widen 22nd Street from Interstate 10 to Houghton Road. A task force was also assembled to take a close look at mass transit financing and ridership numbers, which were publicly questioned when a bus fare increase proposal came before the council last month.
The task force will eventually be expanded into a commission that will examine alternative modes of transportation other than bicycles, Councilman Steve Leal said.
