Powerade's Donte Williams drives past Moore Law Firm's Corey Starks in the second half of the Tucson Summer Pro League championship game at Northwest Center on Sunday. Powerade won 93-89.
Donte Williams is getting used to winning titles in the Tucson Summer Pro League.
Williams, a shooting guard for Powerade, scored 31 points and had seven rebounds Sunday to lead his team past Moore Law Firm 93-89 in the league title game at the Northwest Center.
Williams’ teams have won three championships in the league’s five years, including two in a row.
“I’m a back-to-back champion,” Williams said. “I’m used to this.
“It was a real close game. It came down to the final seconds. My team toughened it out like always and drew out the win.”
During the regular season, Williams was ninth in the league in scoring at 12.1 points per game, and second in shooting at 68.3 percent.
“(Williams) is a real good ballplayer, one of the explosive guys in the league,” said Powerade coach Carl Graham.
Moore Law Firm cut the lead to 90-89 with 1:09 left, but couldn’t score again.
The league was started in 2004 by former University of Arizona player Corey Williams.
Former Wildcats often come out to play, although none was in Sunday’s title contest.
“It was a great game,” Graham said. “All of these guys came out and they competed very well.
“These guys are really good ballplayers. When they come back into town, they don’t have anywhere to play ball, so this a good league for these guys to play in.”
