Group at UA backs new sorority, seeks support
by Renee Schafer Horton on Sep. 12, 2008, under Education, Local, SpecialThe GRL Queer Sorority Interest Group at the University of Arizona is trying to get recognition from the Gamma Rho Lambda national chapter to launch the queer sorority at UA.
To raise funds for that endeavor, the group will have a barbecue from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Park Student Union volleyball courts, 615 N. Park Ave.
“We want to make a space for queer women to experience sisterhood,” said Kat McDonnell, a UA senior and public relations representative for GRL.
The group requests a $5 minimum donation for the barbecue, which will feature vegetarian and nonvegetarian foods.
Gamma Rho Lambda was founded in 2003 at Arizona State University, McDonnell said.
