Water-leak detection kits being sent to Tucson outskirts

by on Sep. 25, 2008, under Local, Special

A local water conservation group is making it easier for people on Tucson’s outskirts to detect toilet leaks.

The Water Conservation Alliance of Southern Arizona recently gave 61,000 leak detection kits to area water providers, though none were given to Tucson Water.

The kits will be sent in water bills for the Oro Valley Water Utility, Marana Water Department, Metropolitan Domestic Water Improvement District, Community Water Company of Green Valley, Flowing Wells Irrigation District and the town of Sahuarita, according to a Water CASA news release.

“This simple test can save water and money you didn’t know you were wasting,” said Water CASA Director Val Little.

You should test for leaks even if you don’t suspect one, she said.

To check for a leak, put one of the kit’s dye strips in your toilet tank and wait 15 minutes without flushing. If dye appears in the bowl, you have a leak.
