The big debate: Farmers and global warming

by on Dec. 01, 2008, under Opinion

‘A new industry is born: catalytic convertors for livestock.’

The story: Farmers are being warned they could pay a stiff price for their contributions to global warming. Blamed are methane, which comes from livestock, and nitrous oxide, which is emitted after nitrogen fertilizer is applied to cornfields.

Your take: Those darn Democrats! Government is out of control!

The comment atop this column is from RDR, who adds, “This only serves to prove that global warming may not be controllable or completely caused by mankind. Best bumper sticker: ‘Save the planet, kill yourself.’ ”

Bergman_m piles on: “Will this liberal madness never stop?! Get ready guys, this man-made global climate change stuff is just an excuse to tax everything, control people’s lives, and change by judicial fiat the way we live.”

1967 agrees, saying, “Not long ago ‘taxing the air we breathe’ was a saying to illustrate the lengths an out-of-control government would go to insure their power over the masses.”

ITMFA strikes back: “Your “sky is falling” chicken little mocking of human-caused climate change, recognized by consensus scientific opinion, is more than just a little bit ironic and highlights your poor grasp of reality.”

You can’t win, says Jim M.: “Under Republicans, we must surrender our liberties in the fight against terrorism. Under Democrat-socialists, we must surrender our liberties in the fight against global warming.”
