Walter J. Baenziger

born February 9, 1913 in Milan, Italy, died July 18, 2003 in Tucson, Arizona. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary; children, Peter, Thomas (Lori), Edward (Kim), Elaine, and Carol (Steve); and seven grandchildren. Services pending. BARLOW, Cyril James, 73, passed away July 19, 2003, surrounded by his family. Cyril was born March 21, 1930 in Manchester, England. His adventurous travels began in 1959 when he immigrated to Canada. There he met Sharon Anne Chrystal whom he had the good fortune to marry in 1962. He charmed clients worldwide during his tenure with American Express, which afforded him an opportunity for an around-the-world cruise, fostering his lifelong love of travel. This work brought him to Tucson in 1970. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to found Barlow Realty and Construction. Whether serving meals to the homeless or playing cards with friends, Cyril had a knack for witty repartee. He was a connoisseur of jazz, vintage VWs, and Hollywood films. A thespian at heart, he held a number of roles in local productions. Cyril enjoyed U of A games and supported the school with tuition for all five of his children. Serving many years as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Pius X and for patients at El Dorado Hospital, Cyril’s Catholic faith and the support of many dear friends sustained him and his family as he faced numerous medical challenges. He was a tender, loving husband, father, and friend who will be dearly missed. Cyril is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon; his five children and their spouses Christine and Jaime Carbajal and children Nathan, Grace, and Gabriel (Perth, Australia); Susan and fiancĂ© Warren Gray (Ashfield, MA); Margaret (Tucson); Ann and Lee Sousley (Portland, OR); Donald and Susan Barlow (Phoenix); his nephew, Dr. Ronald Distefano, wife Judy and daughter Elizabeth Ann (Tulsa, OK). He is also survived by sister-in-law, Wendy Chrystal, her children and their spouses Troy and Heidi Panrucker, daughter Emma (Reno, NV); Chrystal and Darren Marine, daughters Jordan and Paige (Calgary); Shane Panrucker (Calgary). A Memorial Mass and Celebration will be held Tuesday, July 22, at 8:30 a.m., St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo, followed by a reception at the same location. Donations may be made in Cyril’s memory to Casa Maria, 401 E. 26th Street, Tucson AZ 85713.

BELL, Anne I., age 89, of Tucson, was born November 9, 1913 and passed away July 18, 2003 at El Dorado Hospital after complications from surgery. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Bell; and son, Mark. She is survived by two daughters and their families, Kathleen Fleetwood of Phoenix and Jonnette Gonzalez of Tucson; two sisters, Mary Gardner and Margaret Arntz of MI. Memorial services are planned for a later date in Phoenix. Arrangements by the ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel.

Rachel Lee (Word) Blackmore

93, formerly of Canadian, Texas and Tucson, Arizona, passed away Thurs-day, July 17, 2003 in San Antonio, Texas where she had resided with her daughter, Mary Lee Embry, for the past several years. Mrs. Blackmore was born in Elk City, Oklahoma on September 26, 1909. Mrs. Blackmore was employed at Ann Edwards Boutique in Tucson for over 25 years. This was truly a labor of love for Mrs. Blackmore as she formed many endearing friendships. She was admired for her gentle graciousness. She was also a faithful member of the Mountain Avenue Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her mother, Essie Word; daughter, Earlene Tenny; and son, Loren Blackmore. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lee Embry of San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Road. Services will be conducted by her grandson, Jason Embry and Reverend Paul Johnson. Interment will follow in East Lawn Palms Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Vitas Hospice, 5430 Fredericksburg, Road, Suite 200, San Antonio, TX 78229, or a charity of choice. Elizabeth S. Caples

92, passed away early Saturday morning, July 19, 2003 at Sstarside Senior Care, while in the presence of loved ones. Born October 29, 1911 in Port Jarvis, NY, Elizabeth moved to Tucson in the 1940′s where she met and married Roy Lee Caples. The couple had three daughters. Preceded in death by her husband, Elizabeth is survived by her three daughters, Kelsey Ann Caples (Alan Milner) of Tucson, AZ; Sara Lea Moses (Dennis) of Tucson, AZ; Nina Lou Caples (Victor Fombres, Jr.) of Bisbee, AZ; three grandchildren, Carolina Caples, Coulter Moses and Kylee Moses, all of Tucson, AZ. In 1947 Roy and Elizabeth combined their respec-tive talents and love of photography to establish Caples Camera Company, at one time the largest photographic company in the Southwest. The business remained in operation in Tucson until 1985. Remembered for her contribution to the growth of the business, Elizabeth is also remembered for her love and appreciation of the Southwest desert and Catalina Mountains. Elizabeth, you will be forever missed, but we know that your spirit lives on in the beautiful sunsets that grace the desert skies. The family expresses their love and gratitude to the caring staff at Starside Senior Care and Hospice nurses who so diligently and lovingly cared for Elizabeth. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. at East Lawn Palms Cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Road, Tucson, AZ. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel.

DUGAN, Francis L. “Frank”, passed away July 9, 2003. He was born July 23, 1920 in Texas. He is survived by two brothers in Texas and one brother in Washington; numerous nieces and nephews in Arizona and Texas. A remembrance gathering will be held graveside at Holy Hope Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. on his birthday, Wednesday, July 23, 2003.

Carole A. Duncan

57, died July 17, 2003. Survived by her children, Nikki (Russell) Fabbri, Vikki (Larry) Bond and Lee James Duncan; grandchildren, Robyn, Vanessa, Jennifer and Cody Ryan; parents, Leonard and Eleanor Brown; sisters, Janet, Linda, Barbara, Beverly, Gayle and Mary; brother, Charles; numerous nieces and nephews. Donna J. Mealka

Born March 10, 1955, passed away July 17, 2003. She was preceded in death by her father, Mel Henry. Survived by her compantion, Paul E. Hurley; mother, Mary E. Henry; brother, Bob Henry (Sylvia); pets, Buster, Sugar, and Trouble. She will be missed by all that had the privilege of knowing her. She touched so many and was the tie that bound us all. Rest in Peace, Donna. A Memorial Service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at Bethel Community Baptist Church, 446 South Plumer Ave.

Rosemarie Rivera Mendoza

Rosemarie Rivera Mendoza, cherished mother, daughter, sister and friend, was taken by our Heavenly Father July 17, 2003 at the age of 35. She was born in Tucson, Arizona on February 21, 1968. She graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1986. She then worked as a Special Education Teacher’s Assistant for the Sunnyside School District for many years. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Education and graduated with honors from the University of Arizona in May 2002. She recently worked at Mission Manor Elementary School as a first grade teacher. Rosemarie was a loving, outgoing person who made many close and lasting friendships. She was always devoted to her parents, her son, her sisters, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Many will miss her beautiful smile and outgoing personality. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Hortensia and Genaro Rivera and Luis and Rosa Melendez. Rosemarie is survived by her son, Anthony Mendoza; parents, Carlos and Celia Rivera; sisters, Elizabeth (Phillip) Nunez of Tucson, Gloria (Sergio) Cota of Mesa, Arizona, and Clara Rivera of Tempe, Arizona; many nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, and friends.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at St. Monica’s Catholic Church, 212 W. Medina Road. Interment to follow at South Lawn Cemetery.
