Florida authorities have arrested a man in connection with an April slaying on East Skyline Drive near Swan Road.

Pinellas County sheriff’s detectives served an arrest warrant on John Claude Daniels, 60, at 8 p.m. Tuesday in St. Petersburg, Fla., said Mac McMullen, a Pinellas sheriff’s spokesman.

Daniels is being held in Pinellas County Jail on $1 million bail, according to the jail.

John Fletcher Redman Jr., 56, who died of sharp-edged trauma, was found in his apartment by Pima County Sheriff’s deputies who had been called to check on him. Interviews led authorities to suspect Daniels, who was traced to Florida.

The motive appears to have been robbery, said Detective Sgt. Brad Foust of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

The two had worked together at a car dealership, he said.

Valuables and money were missing from the apartment, said Deputy Dawn Barkman, a Pima County sheriff’s spokeswoman.

Daniels will be extradited to Tucson, Barkman said.

Our Digital Archive

This blog page archives the entire digital archive of the Tucson Citizen from 1993 to 2009. It was gleaned from a database that was not intended to be displayed as a public web archive. Therefore, some of the text in some stories displays a little oddly. Also, this database did not contain any links to photos, so though the archive contains numerous captions for photos, there are no links to any of those photos.

There are more than 230,000 articles in this archive.

In TucsonCitizen.com Morgue, Part 1, we have preserved the Tucson Citizen newspaper's web archive from 2006 to 2009. To view those stories (all of which are duplicated here) go to Morgue Part 1
