Pima women golfers extend win streak

Pima Community College’s women’s golf team remained unbeaten in Arizona Community College Athletic Association tournament play, but the Aztecs’ Ginny Taylor suffered her first loss of the season.
Pima won by 39 strokes at the Paradise Valley Community College Ladies Invitational at the Palm Valley Golf Course. Pima, perfect in two years in ACCAC play, had a team total of 640. Phoenix C.C. was second at 679, followed by South Mountain C.C. at 811.
Teri Stratton of Phoenix C.C. shot 76-77-152 for medalist honors. Janet Bingham of Pima was second with 80-74-154, followed by Taylor at 79-76-155.
Taylor had won three tournament titles and tied for another.
Katie Budak of Pima was seventh with 82-84-166 while teammate
Lisa Reilly was eighth with 87-80-167.
Other Pima scores were Maureen Quinnan, 11th with 89-86-175, and Mena Nesbitt, 14th with 102-96-198.
Jimmy Yandell of Tucson shot a final-round 69 on the par-72 Raven Golf Club at South Mountain in Phoenix to finish tied for 14th in the American Junior Golf Association Junior Classic. Yandell had a two-round total of 144.
Pansing Singhaseni of Beverly Hills, Calif., won the boys’ division with 69-68-137. Hana Kim of Encino Calif., topped the girls’ division with 71-69-140 at the Legacy Golf Resort.
Ben Kreger of Tucson shot 74-79-153 in the boys’ division.
Jaress takes title
Jon Jaress of the Tubac Golf Resort shot a 5-under-par 67 to lead a Southern Chapter Southwest Section PGA pro-am at the Fred Enke Golf Course.
Chris Dompier, Robert Moreno and Willie Kane posted 68s while J.R. Roeder had 69.
Jeff Peterson was low amateur with a 72.

Khan, Brown win
Jonathan Khan and Sara Brown of Tucson won titles in the Junior Golf Association of Arizona Spring Junior Classic at the Silverbell Golf Course.
Khan topped the boys 11-12 division with a 77. Brown won the girls 13-14 competition with 71-77-148.
Robert Perott of Rio Rico won the boys 10 and under competition with an 18-hole round of 80 (38-42).
Other winners were: Jacob Rogers (74-67-141), playoff winner over Nathan Tyler (71-70-141- in boys 15-18 championship division; Jake Grodzinsky (71-74-145), playoff winner over Chris Hantla (73-72-145) and Dave Nichols (74-71-145); Velantino Perez (71-70-141), boys 13-14; Beatriz Conti (76-77-153), girls 15-18; Brittany Stewart (50-59-109, 18 holes), girls 11-12; and Alexia Brown (53-60-113, 18 holes), girls 10 and under.
