Re: UA football coach Mike Stoops

I am very pleased that Mike has finally grown up a little bit.

Yelling and screaming is never as effective as calm and poise is -
especially with young men. You can run a “tight ship” and still do it
with reason and class.

Re: UA football team’s schedule

You beat the team that lines up across from you. If they are not
very good, then you drop half-a-hundred on them, and start working
toward next week. That is exactly what this team has done this year.

You are only as good as your last game, and the Cats played a heck
of a game against UW. Forty-eight points and a conference victory?
Yeah, that will always work.

KEVIN P.

This schedule stuff is getting really old . . . We do play the team
we’re scheduled to play, no matter if they’re No. 1 or No. 100. All we
can control is our own performance, and thereby, the other team’s
performance. We’ve outscored opponents 211-76, we’re 4-1, we’re in
first place in our conference, and we are a better team than last year,
with every new snap of the ball.

Ex-Wildcat Walton dealing with alleged stalker

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

It’s long been known former Arizona star basketball player Luke
Walton was one of the more popular Wildcats around. But, it’s gotten so
bad for good-guy Walton that he had to seek a restraining order against
a fan allegedly turned-stalker in California.

According to the Orange County Register, Stacy Beshear, 34, of El
Segundo, Calif., allegedly has been following Walton for some time and
was recently arrested for a number of alleged run-ins with the Los
Angeles Lakers player.

According to the paper, Beshear “contorted her face in anger, stuck
her arm out her car window, curled her hand to make it look like a gun
and shot make-believe bullets at him.”

There is a restraining order on her. She has a court date for Nov. 6.

“It’s bananas,” Walton said in an interview with The Register. “I’ll
be going to sleep at night and just randomly look out the window. Just
to check. Just because. She has been out there at 12:30, 1:30 in the
morning. She would park outside my house for hours and hours.

“I would drive out, and I would see her peeking through. It would
suck, because I know I’m leaving my home, and I know she’s still there.
What am I supposed to do? Is she planning on breaking in? Am I going to
come home one day and she’s sleeping in my bed? Is she going to steal
my dog?”

Eliminated White Sox turn focus to moving out of town

Their playoff run over, the Chicago White Sox will turn their
attention to moving their spring training headquarters from Tucson to
Glendale.

A public forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Tucson
Convention Center’s Leo Rich Theater to discuss a White Sox plan to
bankroll a youth baseball tournament facility and academy at Tucson
Electric Park. The team believes the academy could bring up to $46
million into the local economy.

The White Sox have been unable to lure another team to take their
place at TEP. They hope the youth facility would allow them to break
their lease at TEP through 2012.

Cards’ Wilson won’t know until Friday if he’ll be fined

RealFAST SCORES AND MORE

Cardinals strong safety Adrian Wilson likely won’t find out until
Friday if he’ll be fined for the hit that knocked Bills quarterback
Trent Edwards out of Sunday’s game on the third play.

The play won’t be reviewed as a helmet-to-helmet hit, but it might fall under “unnecessary acts against a passer.”

It didn’t appear Wilson threw Edwards down violently. He did land on
top of Edwards with most of his weight, but Wilson was blitzing full
speed off the right tackle’s edge. Edwards suffered a concussion and
did not return to the game. The Cardinals won, 41-17.

• New York Jets safety Eric Smith appealed his one-game suspension
and $50,000 fine by the NFL for his helmet-to-helmet hit last week on
Arizona receiver Anquan Boldin. A ruling was expected Tuesday.

Arizona has missed on getting big man Anthony Stover for the fall 2009 recruiting class.

His father, Craig, said Friday his son decided on UCLA.

“It was a very hard decision and we respect Lute Olson very much, (as well) as the entire coaching staff.” Craig said, “He thinks highly or Arizona. We wanted to do this as a family, giving our input.

“We decided that with UCLA being closer to home would be better for him so we made that decision.”

Stover is a 6-foot-10, 204-pound center from the Los Angeles area. He visited Arizona two weeks ago and UCLA last weekend.

He was rated as the No. 134th best player for 2009. He’s rated No. 70 by Scout.com.
