Tucson Meet Yourself’s Folklife Festival wants you

Folklife Festival


Tucson Meet Yourself
 has announced that applications are open for Folklife Festival 2012, taking place on October 12, 13, 14, 2012 in downtown Tucson. Deadline to apply is August 15, 2012.

Performers and Workshop Leaders

•Arizona and Sonora-based folk artists, ethnic and cultural clubs or organizations (grassroots, formal non-profits and informal clubs or individuals) who bear traditions;

•Artists of all ages, styles and backgrounds, inclusive of popular forms of music (Cumbia, Norteño, Old Time, R&B, Hip Hop, Salsa, Waila) which gather communities together around folk traditions expressed as social dances.

Folk Artists and Tradition Bearers 

•Tradition Bearers from a wide variety of cultures and occupations, proudly sharing, demonstrating and explaining their traditions and skills.

Vendors  (Note: Food Vendor Applications Closed)

•Sellers affiliated or representing ethnic/folk communities, traditional art forms, heritage foods, traditional healing arts, traditional sports and games, occupational arts, regional identity forms of expression, and/or global crafts exported from a home-country.

Exhibitors

•Non-profit clubs, museums, cultural centers, goodwill associations, government agencies, and/or public service agencies, health-related organizations, international and educational programs.

Kidlore: A series of rich activities around the theme “the folklore of being a child” and “the culture of children.”

Compatible vendors and exhibitors for this area will include:

•Schools (public, private, independent, charter, and/or school districts)

•Children-centered organizations such as health and counseling organizations, scouting, kid sports, educational family agencies and other agencies with public service to kids as priority (fingerprinting, healthy eating, literacy, leisure and entertainment, etc.).
