@ tiponeill - <em>".....what he did was to confuse string theory with the multiverse theory – two totally different theories that have no relationship to each other......"</em>
.
String Theory is extremely complex for anyone not a physicist. Can I assume, "tiponeill", that you, yourself, are a physicist, or an expert in a related field?
.
If so, then, of course, I bow to your academic expertise, since I'm just a simple layman.
.
However, as a simple layman, I see String Theory as a scenario of vibrating strings which are the basic essence of all sentient things. These strings vibrate at frequencies within given boundaries, which will manifest as phenomena (life forms) which can interact with each other.
.
Change the frequency of the strings of any particular phenomenon (life form) then it will disappear out of the perceptions of the other related life-forms.
.
But that phenomenon (life form) which has disappeared because the strings of which it is composed changed their frequency of vibration, may now be perceived by beings in another parallel universe which vibrates at the same frequency as the life form which disappeared from its former universe.
.
Hence UFOs which manifest in our world may have changed their vibrational frequency to enter our universe. When they diasppear, this is because they have changed their vibrational frequency, and have, in effect, gone back to their original universe, or entered another one.
.
The same dynamic could explain ghostly visitations.
.
Since the different parallel universes would constitute a multiverse, then I don't see multiverses as being incompatible with String Theory, as you assert.
.
However, "tiponeill", as an apparent expert, you will no doubt disagree vehemently with all I've said. But I'll soldier on nonetheless in my simple-minded way.

"Spirits" and "ghosts", as well as UFOs and their occupants, may well be accepted by mainstream science eventually because of something called "String Theory" - famously written about by a Dr Brian Greene in a book called "The Elegant Universe".
.
More and more mainstream scientists are taking "String Theory" seriously.
.
String Theory postulates, among other things, that there are eleven parallel universes. We may live, not in a universe, but in a multiverse.
.
Should parallel universes ever be proved in terms of String Theory, then it would explain phenomena like "ghosts" and UFOs and their occupants, who would be visitors from a universe parallel to ours.
.
The "paranormal" would become the "normal".
