As a result of my last Bigfoot post on Sunday night, Internet radio host Lan Lamphere of OvernightAM contacted me via email to offer the “real story” behind Mr. Mike and the disappearing Bigfoot Facebook statuses.

In his written message to me, Lamphere vehemently stated that he never directed anyone, especially Chris Noel of the Bigfoot Facebook page, to delete the Bigfoot group’s Facebook statuses. He invited me to call him or listen to his radio show to get the full story. Due to a chaotic atmosphere with three newly adopted barking dogs, I opted to listen to the show to hear Lamphere’s explanation after the dogs went to sleep.

A few minutes before Lamphere’s show was scheduled to begin last night, I tried to get the live feed on my laptop. Despite several downloads and installations, I could not get the audio feed. I was able to see the listener chat window. I followed the chat while I tried to access the audio.

Several listeners were chatting about Lan Lamphere’s profanity-filled rant related to his disdain of Loren Coleman. Loren Coleman, for those who don’t know, is a cryptozoologist who writes for the website Cryptomundo. Coleman had reported the initial Bigfoot Facebook statuses in question on his blog. I was subsequently not able to find these statuses that Coleman reported about.

When I visited the page, the statuses had been deleted.

Last week, the story of Mr. Mike and the quickly multiplying family of Bigfoot creatures living in his yard had the Bigfoot community buzzing. I wasn’t too impressed with the story that prompted the investigation into that case. I was just interested in the deletion of the “live daily status updates” that the Facebook page claimed, coupled with the sensationalism that surrounds Bigfoot these days.

It was around the time of the anti-Coleman rant on the show that I repeated the entire OvernightAM installation process on my desktop computer. I was finally able to listen in to Lamphere’s show, just in time to hear what Lamphere wanted me to hear.

First off, Lamphere made it clear that he did not direct anyone to delete Facebook statuses. Instead, there is an agreement within the BFRO (Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization) that only Bigfoot blogger Sharon Lee is designated by Lamphere to provide scoops regarding the Mr. Mike saga on her blog. Noel posted his Facebook status updates prematurely. Blogger Sharon Lee was also present in Lamphere’s chat room last night, waiting for the announcement by Lamphere that she was the only person authorized to scoop future stories – not Loren Coleman.

Designated Bigfoot blogger Sharon Lee had much to say in her blog about last night’s events surrounding Lamphere’s show and about the Bigfoot community in general. She wrote, “As I stated in my previous blog post, the people in this field can be quite nasty to one another, even their so-called friends.” She continued by stating, “Lan wants you all to go away. He doesn’t care if you listen to his show ever again.”

Lee goes on to say that the Mr. Mike saga is not yet over, much to the disappointment of many of us, I might add. Lamphere revealed last night that he sent a private investigator over the weekend to shadow the “reputable researcher” that was sent by the BFRO, selected to investigate Mr. Mike’s Bigfoot claims. As you may recall, the researcher got Mr. Mike to admit that he was just seeing things.

Lamphere claims that there is more to this story. He revealed that his private investigator captured a nine foot tall shadow that may or may not be Bigfoot. There also will be future developments related to Mr. Mike.

If anyone is interested in future developments on this, it won’t be reported by me. This is a personal choice on my end. Sharon Lee guarantees that she will be the only one to have the “real story” behind the matter. You can rest assured that I’m not giving this story any more time in the future. I’m going to put forth every effort to ignore the entire circus that surrounds the Bigfoot community.

In fact, the only reason I am writing about it now is that Lamphere wanted it known that he never directed anyone to delete Facebook statuses. When I was able to hear the replay of the show, I got to listen to the very beginning of it where Lamphere mentions me.

Referred to only as “some woman in Tucson”, Lamphere said that I falsely stated that he directed the Facebook page status deletions. No, that wasn’t me. That was Bigfoot research community member Chris Noel. I only quoted Noel’s statement about why the statuses were deleted.

I am left with a major feeling of disappointment over the current state matters associated with Bigfoot. It’s really too bad.

Bigfoot stirred my interest in paranormal matters when I was five years old. I wanted to become a cryptozoologist to research illusive monsters like Bigfoot, Nessie, Champ, and The Jersey devil.

I am glad I didn’t pursue that childhood dream.

I do have a message for paranormal bloggers outside the BFRO who dare to write about Bigfoot. It’s best to avoid Bigfoot matters, otherwise things get quite nasty.

Earlier today, I wrote about a new page on Facebook that states that it is dedicated to researching Bigfoot sightings. Established last week, it aims to “further Bigfoot/Sasquatch sightings with daily live updates”.

On two different occasions today, at least two of the page’s live status updates were mysteriously deleted.

The first status update:

….I’m only glad that we–meaning the research community at large, as represented by this one investigator–were able to lay the story to rest before its impact in the media was able to spiral further out of control and do greater harm, in the popular imagination, to our field, a field that hardly needs this.

The second status update:

I have been asksed by Lan Lamphere, host of “Overnight AM,” to remove my update until after Monday night’s broadcast.

This post was deleted in favor of a link to Lan Lamphere’s show. The dramatic teaser to the show is here. Go ahead and click through.

So much for live daily updates.

Two different paranormal news outlets besides myself posted the news today that “Mr. Mike” was just seeing things, based on publicly viewable posts that have been proven to be as illusive as Bigfoot.

I support the research community at large, yet I also support the media. When status updates reported by the media are mysteriously removed in favor of sensationalism, I do take offense.

Enough said.

Established last week, it aims to “further Bigfoot/Sasquatch sightings with daily live updates”. As soon as the page went up, the group was presented a hopeful case.

A man named “Mike”, who lives “somewhere” in the Pacific Northwest, claimed that Bigfoot was living in his backyard. The claim sounded believable, so a reputable researcher was scheduled to investigate. The Facebook group kept their fingers crossed.

As “Mike’s” popularity grew, so did the number of Sasquatch creatures said to be residing on his property. On a web radio broadcast last Thursday, the man with Bigfoot in his backyard began to share new information to the listeners. As a result, the Facebook page creator made the following statement on Friday:

I was definitely of two minds about the show last night. Like all of us, I so want “Mike” to be on the level, but now there are three babies and more adults? And they’re now freely venturing into the front yard, near traffic? It’s getting like Grand Central Station over there. On the other hand, “Mike” continues to …sound persuasive, and if the private eye really did see and photograph large shapes…

Last night, the reputable researcher began to camp out at “Mike’s” place. It was reported that the researcher’s work was easy and swift last night. He and “Mike” came to the agreement that “Mike” was just seeing things.

A visit to the page this morning did not reveal the update that was reported. Instead, the following post was made:

I have been asksed by Lan Lamphere, host of “Overnight AM,” to remove my update until after Monday night’s broadcast.

According to the report by Crytomundo, the initial status update made this morning was meant to put this particular Bigfoot report to rest:

I’m only glad that we–meaning the research community at large, as represented by this one investigator–were able to lay the story to rest before its impact in the media was able to spiral further out of control and do greater harm, in the popular imagination, to our field, a field that hardly needs this.

Perhaps, after tomorrow, we will put this particular report to rest. My question is, however, why delete and delay the announcement that this case was disappointingly debunked?
