DEDICATED TO THE GOOD EMPLOYEES OF PIMA COLLEGE
by Lyn Olsen on Jun. 10, 2012, under Education
When you have been somewhere for a long time, there is good and bad in the knowing of the people which can be inspiring or disillusioning as is my case with Pima College.
There is the suggestion that the Pima College Board and administration didn’t know anything about the problems students and employees were experiencing, but that is hard to believe because of the staggeringly high employee turnover including the constant shifting of top administrators and the decreased enrollment in Pima College students at a time when other schools have significant increases in their enrollment.
Or, and more probable as it is reinforced by statements from board members and administration, they did know but they chose to either ignore it or allow it, which means they failed at their most critical duty – to serve well their students and employees rather then letting them suffer under the administration of Flores.
So, this blog is written to recognize the good employees who have felt undervalued and disenfranchised by the administration… because in the past couple of weeks several good employees have told me they can’t do it anymore and they are leaving, and others have told me they are hoping they can last for another year or two so they can retire but they don’t know if they can make it either. To these good employees I wish to express my thanks because I know and students know that you did make a great difference for the better in our lives.
Aside from my thanks to these good employees, I need to confess to the readers that it has always been with great reluctance that I have written each and every blog but I felt compelled because of precipitating and highly disappointing events that occurred at those times in the College. Although I have never provided the details of any of these events, I remain unwilling to do so because, while Pima College administration and the board may have chosen to not do the right thing for me, employees, or students, I believe that I must still do the right thing for Pima College, and especially for the students.
