Registration for Pima County swim lessons begins June 24
by Pima County News on Jun. 21, 2011, under Parks & Recreation, Pima County, SportsPima County, Arizona – Registration for the last two summer sessions of swim lessons at Pima County pools begins at 7:30 a.m. Friday, June 24, and continues through open pool hours.
Swim Lesson Sessions:
III: July 5 through July 14
IV: July 18 through July 28
The first week of Session III is Tuesday-Friday; all other weeks and sessions are Monday-Thursday. Lessons cost $20 for a two-week session (8 classes).
You may register for Session III and Session IV at this time. If your child progresses to the next skill level between sessions, every effort will be made to accommodate him/her in the next level class.
The Northwest YMCA – Thad Terry Pool swim lessons will be taught through the YMCA. Please call 229-9006 for information on swim lesson classes at this facility.
PIMA COUNTY POOLS OPEN JULY 4th
All Pima County pools will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. July 4. Bring a can of food to donate to the Community Food Bank and get in free.

CLASSES TAUGHT AT ALL PIMA COUNTY POOLS:
Parent and Child Aquatics:
Class for children 6 months to 3 years of age. A parent or guardian accompanies the child into the water. Emphasis is on orienting the child and parent to simple water skills. Water adjustment, development of aquatic motor skills, and safety are the primary focus.
Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills
The objective is to help the students feel comfortable in the water and enjoy the water safely. Elementary aquatics skills and safe practices around the water are taught.
Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Prerequisite: Level 1 certificate or equivalent skills. Emphasis is on success with fundamental skills.
Level 3: Stroke Development
Prerequisite: Level 2 certificate or equivalent skills. Focus on additional guided practice of Level II skills as well as the introduction to more advance skills of butterfly and treading water.
Level 4: Stroke Improvement
Prerequisite: Level 3 certificate or equivalent skills. The objective is to build confidence and endurance with familiar strokes. New strokes include breaststroke, sidestroke, and rotary breathing.
CALL YOUR POOL TO FIND OUT IF THESE CLASSES ARE BEING TAUGHT:
Level 5: Stroke Refinement
Prerequisite: Level 4 certificate or equivalent skills. The objective is coordination and refinement of strokes with an increase in distances and an introduction to flip turns.
Level 6: Swimming and Skill Proficiency.
Prerequisite: Level 5 certificate or equivalent skills. The objective is to refine the strokes so students swim with more ease, efficiency, power, and smoothness over greater distances.
Guard Start:
Lifeguard Readiness is the focus of this course (replaces the Jr. Lifeguard Program.)
