Pima County finalizes 12,456 ballots Fridayby Pima County News on Nov. 09, 2012, under Elections, Pima County, Southern Arizona, Tucson
Pima County finished counting 12,456 ballots Friday, Nov. 9, as elections officials work to finalize results.
Of the 256,713 ballots verified by the Recorder, 235,097 have been counted, leaving approximately 22,000 ballots to be counted. Most of these will be counted on Saturday, Nov. 10. Additionally, approximately 27,000 provisional ballots are yet to be verified by the Recorder’s Office. An as-yet-undetermined number of provisional and conditional ballots issued at the polling places will not be certified for a number of different reasons, including if voters failed to provide the appropriate identification, were not registered to vote, or already cast an early ballot before showing up at the polling places. Counting of provisional ballots will proceed as batches are received and processed.
Pima County will update its home page, www.pima.gov, every night by 6 p.m. with the total number of ballots counted that day.
On Thursday, the Pima County Recorder’s Office finished the verification process for all of the early ballots. The cumulative total of early ballots that were signature-verified by the Pima County Recorder’s Office is 256,713.
Those early ballots were turned over to the Elections Department for processing and counting – a process observed by members of both political parties.
The Recorder’s Office is now focused on the verification of the provisional ballots, with a deadline of Nov. 16.
By statute, Pima County must certify its election results by Nov. 26.
The Elections Department will resume its count Saturday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m.
