Pima Animal Care Center contest: Check out that Fluffy PooHuahua!by Pima County News on Oct. 01, 2013, under Pima Animal Care Center, Pima County, Southern Arizona, Tucson
They may not be candidates for the Westminster dog show, but that’s also what’s kind of cool about them. They’re like no other dog you’ve ever seen before.
We affectionately refer to these unique specimens as “Sonoran purebreds” but for National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month in October, we’re hoping to really celebrate what makes each one of these dogs 100 percent special.
We need your help to give mutts the cache they deserve! From Oct. 1 through Oct. 11, we will be holding a contest to give our dogs their own unique breed. The formula you’ll use: A combination of the breeds you think may be present in each specific dog, along with a singular detail that makes this particular dog a standout.
Maybe we’ve got in our possession a rare Black-blazed SchnauPinPeke. Or perhaps we have a fine Cream-Crested BeagleOxer or a Chubby-jowled GerWeilerTriever.
To help us get the ball rolling, we’ve selected five of our most hopeful residents looking for new identities, including this guy here. Log on to www.pima.gov/breedcontest. You can also participate via Facebook, www.facebook.com/pimaanimalcare
The Arizona Daily Star’s editorial cartoonist David Fitzsimmons, no stranger to silly, will select the winning name for each.
Winning entries will get to choose between a free adoption or a free pet treat basket!
